one time i saw kay ryan & carl phillips & james tate get into it abt the function of obscurity to create deep, rich meaning—but how bad poets being obscure for obscurities sake (or worse as a flex) makes readers feel alienated & obtuse—and so teaching kids to approach poetry as a cipher is damaging
