i dont usually set long term splatoon goals cuz i usually have trouble meeting my own expectations (and maintaining focus lol) but what if i just set my goal extraordinarily, unnecessarily high

like im gonna get into +1 by the end of this year

I have never in my life cared for character shipping but I love oguri and Tamamo as a ship and I have never felt this feeling where I see other ships of either char and I feel.... Betrayal.... Very new to me 😳

I do something very similar! if i feel weird about a game or like i definitely contributed to a loss in a major way, i kind of jot down what i think went wrong. i then go thru the replay and corroborate or add to that list basically. its unbelievably helpful, and i go into the new game w/ insight

it is remarkable how often people will find the most convoluted/vague (and wrong) explanations for why they lost a game of splatoon, but if you make them watch back the replay they can pick up the actual problems so easily

i thought people were misguided but its literally just a memory issue \

Regardless of my ability to improve over time. People often forget the human components in all of this and then wonder why our community is so stunted.

This echoes my feelings exactly. The first impressions bit especially. It's why I am so scared to do pick ups a lot of the time. I often feel like I need to practice insanely hard in solo before I jump into pickups or sendou because if I'm not ready then I'll just have a label over my head

I’ve been seeing a lot of people say that if you’re good enough, the server or environment doesn’t matter you’ll eventually get noticed and end up playing with strong players. I used to believe that too. Im pretty sure I can go back to my 2023 VODs and find myself saying mid-level players were just making excuses and they are terrible entitled players lmao.
But after talking and playing with so many people, my perspective has changed. Yes, outliers will rise very quickly some players are just that good and improve at a crazy pace. But not everyone develops that way. At higher levels, growth often depends a lot on opportunities, and who you’re able to practice with consistently (or if you can play Japan x rank at their time zones+fast queue times) .
First impressions also carry a lot of weight. If you don’t immediately perform, people tend to label you as “not good” and often ignore your improvement over time. The current competitive enviorment just doesn't facilitate growth overtime at all. And while it’s true that some people blame the system instead of putting in the work, that’s not something that should be applied for everyone.
What I’d really like to see is a healthier community path for improving players, back in S2 solo queue wasn't that big of a factor at least for me, you could grind tournaments, scrims, colo etc and it was very easy to set a clear path for your growth without worrying about result culture or getting dodged. You only really got blacklisted if you proved time and time again you just weren't cut out for your current level. Overtime I'm starting to understand why everyone gets so heated about +server etc. It's just not fun to play in the current community environment for comp and I hope eventually people will be a bit more opened minded to making the current comp environment more enjoyable instead of just "God I earned my way up here they can do it too I'm so good and they aren't ego ego ego ego 🤬🤬"

To the people saying oh the + server is inactive anyways so voting doesn't matter and no one should care. Try asking yourself why it's inactive and the answers may shock you 😱😱 (this is irrelevant to my thoughts below) #compsplatoon

thats super lame honestly.

like i was mentioning in a server, a teacher wouldn't let someone telling an artist "they suck" to fly in an art critique. the critique has to be intentional. yet constantly people are allowed to vote based on biases or bad intent in a server meant for people to improve. doesn't make sense.

especially when the people who want to get -in- are trying so hard just for that to be completely cut short by one or two votes short. it's just one simple idea i had of many. this community is based off of kids/teens so expecting that to kind of drive itself is just not gonna happen in a clean way.

and those that do vote in bad faith ("i dont like this person""they suck") could get penalized thru vetting the written responses, or at the very least dissuaded from voting altogether if theyre not educated on the player. hearing abt how often ppl just vote no or yes for everyone is discouraging.

my suggestion for a + adjustment would be to have mandatory written criteria that you have to write in to explain the reasoning behind your vote. i feel like even if it's just not even that in depth, but intentional and proven, it would weed out a lot of people that might be voting in bad faith.
