Additionally, this drug will further impact my depleted immune system, so I’ll begin having IV infusions of immunoglobulins. Those sessions are 4 hours so it’s going to be long days, but I won’t be able to say I don’t have time to resume my writing career anymore!

I’ll also be restarting the steroid treatment, which is unfortunate because it really disrupts sleep, but it amplifies the effects of the drug and helps my body deal with it.

I’ve been having recurring eye infections for months and, after consulting with ophthalmology, the medical team determined that it was likely a rare side effect of my maintenance drug. So starting next week I’ll be switched to a new maintenance drug.

I’m grateful to currently be in a remission stage, though remission is different with myeloma because we know it’s coming back. Still, this is reason to celebrate!

It’s World Cancer Day and I want to thank all of the doctors, nurses, and researchers who have dedicated their careers to trying to defeat it. I think every one of us has lost someone special to cancer. The toughest for me were my mom and one of my best friends. #CancerSky

Grateful for the entire staff at DHMC Oncology & Hematology for doing their best to keep patients focused on hope and joy. Today was exhausting, the third day in a row of testing. Fingers crossed that the tests reveal I’m transplant eligible so that my stem cell harvesting can happen. #CancerSky

Starting a busy week of tests to gain updated benchmarks for the status of the myeloma in my body after induction therapy, and I’m so blessed to have the support of caring daughters and sons. Today was a bone marrow biopsy and afterwards we had an Eggs Benedict fest. #CancerSky

But I realize that the myeloma journey is going to be a continuous series of setbacks, so this is my opportunity to learn how to better process and manage them as they come. I’m learning a lot about that from the experience and inspiration of other patients. ✌️

This is minor, especially in comparison to what I see others dealing with. But it’s still frustrating. My recent test numbers were discouraging as well, after a few months of very promising results. So the combination has got me down a bit.
