Was asked why so many social scientists are left wing. Could it be this? If you look at the world of inequality and poverty and think ‘we need to understand this and do better’ you might become a social scientist. But if you think ‘this is basically all ok’, you won’t.

LENTE Opposes Delaying the 2025 BARMM Parliamentary Elections: Elections Should Be Timely and Periodic The Legal Network for Truthful Elections (LENTE) opposes the proposal to postpone the first 2025 Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Parliamentary Elections.

The decades-long armed conflict in the Bangsamoro region was driven by political, social, and economic exclusion. Worryingly, delaying elections for years on end seems to be an entrenchment of marginalisation.

Meanwhile, the people of the BARMM have yet to elect their own leaders since the region was created in 2019 - a situation which is at odds with the commitment in the 2014 peace agreement for "a democratic process that will secure their identity and posterity and allow for meaningful self-governance"

The Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) seeks an extension of the transition period in the BARMM beyond 2025 - meaning a suspension of regular elections yet again. Congress is now deliberating the postponement of regular elections in the BARMM for the 2nd time (and the appointment a new BTA). ⬇️
