This is alarming!
22.07.2025 08:55 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0As someone who studies political discourse and who believes, genuinely, in the promise of cross-party democratic deliberation, I say this repeatedly:
You CANNOT deliberate with someone who doesnβt believe you have a right to exist.
It doesnβt matter how βcivillyβ they want to destroy you

Important piece by @pstamase.bsky.social on impeachhment law and practice in the Philippines, very timely in view of impeachment of Philippine Vice President Sara Duterte (daughter of former President Rodrigo Duterte)

Above all, Duterte is in The Hague because of the families of victims. Marcos action was the last domino but not the most important.

At least 56% of sitting judges in trial courts are women. Considerable numbers in appellate courts as well, but only 2 out of 15 Supreme Court justices are women.

02.02.2025 08:55 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0My article in the Philippine Natural Resources Law Journal is out! In this article, I examine the continuing epistemic violence that state-centric, extractivist land laws inflict on Indigenous peoples, with reflections on how to challenge these unjust laws using lessons from Fourth World advocacy.

06.01.2025 19:03 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 02024 was a very hard year. But so many friends (old and new) helped make the load lighter π For all those who came to wash dishes, pick up groceries, do errands, sit with us at the hospital, gossip - thank you so very much! Sending hugs to you all!
We are going to crush 2025!
Respectfully, I cannot yet bring myself to read this article in the Leiden JIL because the abstract entertains the potential of Israeli annexation of Gaza & says development of the oil reserves is necessary & possible under this scenario.
It is not. At all.

Was asked why so many social scientists are left wing. Could it be this? If you look at the world of inequality and poverty and think βwe need to understand this and do betterβ you might become a social scientist. But if you think βthis is basically all okβ, you wonβt.

07.12.2024 21:28 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0LENTE has written a strong statement opposing the second postponement of elections here:
anfrel.org/lente-oppose...
The decades-long armed conflict in the Bangsamoro region was driven by political, social, and economic exclusion. Worryingly, delaying elections for years on end seems to be an entrenchment of marginalisation.
I wrote about the the first postponement here:
www.iconnectblog.com/democracy-on...
Meanwhile, the people of the BARMM have yet to elect their own leaders since the region was created in 2019 - a situation which is at odds with the commitment in the 2014 peace agreement for "a democratic process that will secure their identity and posterity and allow for meaningful self-governance"
05.12.2024 10:07 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) seeks an extension of the transition period in the BARMM beyond 2025 - meaning a suspension of regular elections yet again. Congress is now deliberating the postponement of regular elections in the BARMM for the 2nd time (and the appointment a new BTA). β¬οΈ
