Trips to Italy are always quite an ego boost for me. Here in Barcelona people usually either look down on me or stare with an annoyed look (just another obese puto guiri) but in Italy I'm treated with respect and not as the most hideous reptile with a thick (I wish!) wallet.

Italian is a bit of an outlier among the major Romance languages.

Spanish has 'escuela', Portuguese has 'escola', French has 'école' - all starting with a vowel - but in Italian it's 'scuola'.

Did it never get a vowel?
It sure did: Old Italian had 'iscuola'!

I dislike the city for being Barcelona. Turku is 10 times smaller and completely different... also because the cultures are total opposites. I left Turku in 2006 and lived in three different countries before moving to BCN, so I'm not comparing Barcelona to Turku.
