finally watched the Japanese version of the first Pokemon movie. it’s a better, more well-rounded movie with much more backstory. it also has a more fitting OST compared to the English version’s licensed soundtrack, which I’m admittedly nostalgic for. also, no weird Minnesota Vikings reference.
and being authentic to yourself when creating something. I don’t really know what spawned this thread, or if it’s even coherent, but the show has definitely become a lens for how I view other stories and creative works.
there are so many different layers, moods and feelings attached to the show that’s difficult to articulate, especially via microblogging. it’s made me think about my own writing and what I’d like to convey to readers, and how valuable it is to play with form to create something nobody has ever seen.
since then, I’ve found the show less rewatchable over time, despite the super high quality acting, stories, etc. by comparison, Twin Peaks has been infinitely rewatchable and becomes more emotionally resonant each time.
I was really drawn to a lot of the new ideas in BB and its tightly structured story - everything is set up early on to pay off dramatically later. I found that very satisfying, until the last episode where I was left a little cold.
I often think about the lasting impact Twin Peaks has had on the way I view stories and art. it’s interesting that just prior to me watching the show for the first time, Breaking Bad was my high watermark of visual storytelling.
haven't played it yet but have been apprehensive to pay more than $20 for it for the reasons I stated in this thread.
I’ve been struggling to get through the P3 remake for the past couple of years because of this feeling of diminished returns.
I want the next game to surprise me again. the character stories need to be stronger, for one. I also think Persona suffers from Harry Potter syndrome, where it’s often centered on deviants/people outside of norm, yet they all end up being very hetero and mostly conform to societal norms anyway.
as someone who was passionate about the Persona series, kind of worried about its direction. it felt fresh when I played my first Persona 15ish years ago with its music, life-sim/rpg hybrid mechanics and emotionally vulnerable characters but I think the formula is at risk of getting stale for me
pretty cool that this song is getting more of a mainstream spotlight. it and David Wise in general have deserved it for decades. pitchfork.com/reviews/trac...
my dream job is to write dialogue for pre and post-trainer battles in pokemon
where’s the EAD Tokyo game
Pokopia has taken over my Switch friends list
@rodkin.online is there a possibility for a Twin Peaks The Return rewatch podcast? think it’d be interesting to hear what you guys think after all this time.
celebrated with early morning gothic architecture talk
treating Pokopia as my cozy game genre test. if I can’t get into this, the genre just isn’t for me.
my long held theory that a regular Altaria has never KO’d a player’s Pokemon in its long history of existing. what a horrible Pokemon
boomer take but Eevee and friends shouldn’t be out in the wild 😔
Scarlet/Violet’s postgame has a similar appeal to Mario Kart World’s open world - gives you the opportunity to just go brain off and glide around to fill out your Pokédex, find trainers and find items.
I don’t know what his role is with the series anymore but I still get a little choked up when I see Satoshi Tajiri in the credits of modern Pokemon games.
if the team had another year, I wanted to add. it looks like wind/waves has received significantly more dev time so I’m more hopeful for that than I was a few days ago, before I finally played through Violet
finished the main story. overall, it’s better than sword/shield and mixes up some of the series tropes. it definitely picks up when you get more freedom. ultimately it still suffers in certain areas presumably due to not having enough dev time. I think it’s a good game that could have been great.
I like that gym leaders don’t full restore spam you in this game. always thought that was cheap and lazy design in past games.
I was wondering why all the Pokemon I was facing for a while were 10 levels higher than mine but it let me level up faster so I wasn’t complaining
I like that the game allowed me to unintentionally tackle the harder areas early, making the gym battles I missed earlier much easier when I finally discovered them.
I played a lot more of it today and it gets better when you get the upgraded travel mechanics
even with the Switch 2 boosts, the short distance pop-in is rampant
the game let me jump to this little island without letting me leave it. pretty sloppy. fortunately you can fly back to a pokemon center.
