I'm thinking of minority populations, who can be exquisitely sensitive to voter suppression. Might be a factor as they try to hold GOP seats in TX, for example. But could it create a backlash among those voters, or among white voters in the same district? Yes, it certainly could!

...that's not to say objecting to it, or pols making statements against it, isn't important. It certainly makes it less likely they'll try it, as will all the people pre-emptily calling out attempts to muddy the electoral waters. AND...

...given the political winds this year, a lot more of those competitive districts are likely to be red, not blue. Sending goons to Bakersfield or White Settlement, TX could wind up backfiring on them. So I'd expect a lot of bluster and "leaving the door open" without much follow through. BUT...

See people sniffing that ICE doesn't have the goonpower to be at every polling place, which of course misunderstands the nature of the problem. Even just the threat is enough to put off some voters. And let's face it, the small number of competitive districts makes targeting much easier. BUT...
