“America is the wealthiest nation on Earth, but its people are mainly poor, and poor Americans are urged to hate themselves. To quote the American humorist Kin Hubbard, 'It ain’t no disgrace to be poor, but it might as well be.' It is in fact a crime for an American to be poor, even though America is a nation of poor. Every other nation has folk traditions of men who were poor but extremely wise and virtuous, and therefore more estimable than anyone with power and gold. No such tales are told by the American poor. They mock themselves and glorify their betters. The meanest eating or drinking establishment, owned by a man who is himself poor, is very likely to have a sign on its wall asking this cruel question: 'if you’re so smart, why ain’t you rich?' There will also be an American flag no larger than a child’s hand – glued to a lollipop stick and flying from the cash register.

Americans, like human beings everywhere, believe many things that are obviously untrue. Their most destructive untruth is that it is very easy for any American to make money. They will not acknowledge how in fact hard money is to come by, and, therefore, those who have no money blame and blame and blame themselves. This inward blame has been a treasure for the rich and powerful, who have had to do less for their poor, publicly and privately, than any other ruling class since, say Napoleonic times. Many novelties have come from America. The most startling of these, a thing without precedent, is a mass of undignified poor. They do not love one another because they do not love themselves.”

reading slaughterhouse 5 for the first time and i was absolutely knocked senseless by this passage, which is so true and relevant that it feels like it was pulled from a history book

It's hard to overstate how fully engaged Chicago and the surrounding suburbs are in this ICE madness. There are neighborhood watch alerts, spontaneous crowds gathering outside schools at pick up & drop off plus madly blowing whistles and honking car horns, this city is fighting back and hard.

I also think some people just treat it like, if a character does something it's forever, characters can't change their minds or reconsider, but people change their minds all the time in real life. If you're trying to write characters that feel real, theyre going to do that too sometimes

26.10.2025 14:56 — 👍 1    🔁 0    💬 0    📌 0

Rwby's writing doesn't get enough credit, the show likes to be really obvious about some things. But I think often times they hide the truth in these really big obvious things. The way so many people think Yang is stupid because of how she acts, I think both things are intentional misdirections

Where Adam is too hard, too angry, Sun is too soft to carefree, and Yang is just right. She can be lighthearted, can lift people up with her charm, but she's also very capable of being serious, of taking the hardships and doing what needs to be done. Yang is a balance between Adam and Sun

26.10.2025 14:48 — 👍 1    🔁 0    💬 0    📌 0

And i think that whole relationship with Sun mightve worked out if beacon didnt fall. But it did, and it dragged Blake down into Adam's abuse. And Sun helped, but it becomes more clear to me over v4-6 that Sun is nice, but he's too carefree. It feels like a callback to Yang being Goldilocks

26.10.2025 14:46 — 👍 1    🔁 0    💬 0    📌 0

For me I think it's intentionally there to mirror Blake and Yang. Rwby does that a lot, most characters are foils to someone in same way. Yang is a mirror of Adam in a lot of ways, and a mirror of Sun. She has the charm and the anger Adam did, but the goofiness and kindness that Sun did.

The thing about these grindset lifestyle posts is that they're all fake. None of it is real.

Some transgender people see only darkness in front and behind them.

The current climate is especially accelerating this.

Transgender people just want to love the people they love and live their lives as themselves.
