Transgender rights are under attack from all 3 coalition parties. David Seymour has been clear that he believes in "safe spaces" for "biological women" and segregated toilets for transgender folk. Vote them out. #nzpol

Yes, thankfully! I was really hoping the Greens would be in power last election and would get to implement their solar subsidy policy. Maybe this year 🀞

Pretty sad that the people of Aotearoa are not the primary concern of govt parties. πŸ˜•
Getting solar this year, have waited 12 years and so pleased to finally be getting there.

And why are they funding this when they choose to cancel the Lake Onslow pumped storage scheme? Why find this when the electricity sector is mostly privatised? This will soon get sold off for a song and we'll be left still paying the bill.

09.02.2026 05:14 β€” πŸ‘ 4    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

Has anyone asked the government why they're funding this when our electricity sector is privatised? Why this and not ferries? Why this and not subsidising solar? Why this and not the inpatients hospital in Dunedin? Why are they happy to put public funds in private pockets?

09.02.2026 05:08 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Can't have ferries for that amount but can fund oil companies. Ffs.

LNG terminal decision: Dirty, dumb and expensive - Greenpeace - Greenpeace Aotearoa Greenpeace is slamming the Luxon government’s announcement it will build a liquid natural gas (LNG) import terminal, calling it a dirty, dumb and expensive decision that will leave New Zealander...

Govt plans to force NZers to pay even more fossil fuel subsidies, this time via our electricity bills for an LNG import terminal. Govt wants us to pay Big Oil to make the climate crisis worse. Gross moral turpitude and economic illiteratacy www.greenpeace.org/aotearoa/pre...

This is such bs from the government. While the rest of the world gets on with solar, wind and other forms of renewable distributed generation, we go further and further backwards. I hate it. We're the dumping ground for the world's sunset industries.

National is going to raise your power prices to pay for a facility that might never be used, simply to create the illusion that gas has a future and discourage industrial users from switching.

What a waste of money

In this election year, with a lolly scramble coming from the govt, we will need to remind people how health has been eroded in NZ, with most public money being funneled to private providers. Combined with inflation of food staples being well over 3.5%, remind people how hard it's been and will get.

Yes!! That's a really good reminder, I find it easy to become negative and lose hope when spending too much time in the muck.

Seabed miner Trans-Tasman Resources retracts claim it will earn $1 billion a year It comes after the plan was included in the list of projects up for Fast Track Bill approval.

RNZ's lapses are concerning. Australia's TTR wasn't going to make $1 billion earnings for #NZ through seabed mining. TTR made that claim but retracted it once they got onto fast track. RNZ even reported it back then but in the last 2 days, RNZ have republished the $1b claim as fact twice #nzpol

That would be an amazing resource but the opportunity cost for one person would be huge. I guess this is why the right can win campaigns because they have money to make this stuff happen. We have to rely on crowd funding and resourcing.

Is there stylometric evidence to support the argument that Ovid has a distinct female poetic style?

Is there stylometric evidence to support the argument that Ovid has a distinct female poetic style?

No.

No.

I presented a little research project this week in Aotearoa at the regional classics conference. Here I was testing the idea that Ovid has a distinct style in the way he uses language when writing as a male vs female poetic speaker.

He doesn't.

So, if we have to put Ovidian poems in boxes (like 'male' vs 'female') we are much better, imho, making those boxes about genre. I'm not saying that "identifying as pale elegiac lover" is a useful gender in terms of analysis ...

... but also, honestly, I'm not *not* saying that.

We're about to start building our passive house and it has shocked me how few builders are familiar with it and any energy saving/ smart home techniques. None of the big franchises will even do uPVC windows, which seems pretty basic.
