The lesser-known, first Magnum theme reminds me of Lalo Schifrin's Mannix theme. Intentionally similar?

Both don't exactly say P.I. crime show to me.

I esp. like that the Rockford theme isn't your typical crime show theme. If you didn't know it was for a P.I. show, you might not think it was for a P.I. show.
Whereas the Magnum themes are action show from the jump.

I like how closely the new Rockford reboot seems to be sticking to the original. I'm still unsure the theme music should carry over. That's just sentiment talking. The themes carried over for HAWAII FIVE-O and SWAT. Why not Rockford? Have Mike Post do a LAW & ORDER update of the theme if you must.

"Based on the 1974β1980 series, The Rockford Files follows a wrongfully convicted, laid-back ex-con who works as a [P.I.] solving 'cold' cases from his Malibu trailer while carefully avoiding violence and entanglements with the LAPD."
Sounds promisingly like they're not fixing what wasn't broken.

Today is Nat'l Grammar Day. I'm open to poems of crimes against grammar. Or, if you find grammar overly restrictive, poems about breaking free of grammar.

Excellent return of Bishop episode of #NCIS last night. Dialogue was especially sharp.

Publishing oneself is an achievement, but self-publishers typically have to put more time, effort, and money into quality of publication than traditionally-published authors. That additional investment may leave you w/ less reward, ultimately making it all worth less to you.

I should add: My definition of writing success is submitting work to a market and being accepted and published.
You may define it by monetary, awards, or fame milestones, but those are only in play after publication and less in your control if at all.
Five months in and still looking for work. Game writing would be great, but I've also got 30 years software QA management experience with waterfall and agile.
So, if you need someone who can write with a strong tech background and can work with teams across multiple continents, I might be your guy.
Writers' most important trait is hard work and rejection doesn't dissuade them. Their vision/goal of success-when-all-is-said-and-done is worth all the time and work they put in. Ditto actors and athletes.
03.03.2026 21:25 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0It's very helpful to writers to take editing jobs. Looking at strangers' work, you can see why it does or doesn't fit a particular publication. From there, you can read your own work more objectively and improve it until it meets the standard.

Rejection/failure surprises b/c writers don't expect to be rejected/fail. When we submit, we believe we've done everything required to be accepted/published. After all, why submit if you haven't done everything?
Similarly athletes train and expect to win. They don't go in w/ a losing attitude.
I think writers are very confident they will succeed. I think it's natural in writers to believe their work will be accepted/published. That's part of what it takes to be a writer, similar to actors believing against the odds they will land paying acting jobs.

When it comes to writing and publishing, why are we so surprised by failure?

To be fair, though, you can straight out say "lie" when it's legally determined. News outlets often report long before things are definitively determined.

Burger King also had the Chicken Specialty Sandwich long before McDonald's had anything chicken.
"It's too late, baby, now. It's too late, though we really did try to make it."
I preferred Burger King b/c they had the Bacon Double Cheeseburger decades before McDonald's put bacon on any of their burgers.
