I don't mind helping people out with specific questions about geonodes or blender in general. But making actual tutorials is not in my interest, especially not for more complex setups like this.

But what I can do is point you towards Bad Normals, Joey Carlino and Johnny Matthews on Youtube. From those people I at least know that they actually try to explain what they are doing and why things work the way they do.
10.02.2026 11:57 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0That's the problem though, I cannot point you to a sepcific tutorial for an effect like this, because I didn't follow one to create it. Nor do I know of any specific geonode beginner tutorials for newer blender versions.

And well, making scenes is something I do enjoy a lot, so I might go a little overboard sometimes ^^

The simulation itself is very efficient, it can do hundreds of strings in more or less real time. The real performance sinkhole is turning them into a mesh after the simulation
09.02.2026 16:29 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0If I want textures on the strings, then yes I do need some sort of UV / mapping vector. Problem is none of the default mapping vectors are bound to the strings, so the strings may move, but the textures will just stay in place.
09.02.2026 16:25 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0All the knowledge you need is freely scattered around the internet, it's up to you to go look for it ^^
08.02.2026 14:01 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0It's nodes after nodes after nodes after nodes after nodes after nodes after nodes
07.02.2026 14:28 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0That's currently a bit up in the air, because I'm unsure if I'll be keeping the node library access available on my patreon. But first I'll be testing it properly in an actual animation. If I keep the access tier it'll be made available there, if not I'll have to see
07.02.2026 14:25 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The hardest part was getting somewhat stable UVs on the strings after remeshing. The simulation itself was relatively straight forward
07.02.2026 13:16 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Of course I am ^^

19.12.2025 22:40 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I feel you, combing definitely takes its time, but it's like any other process, you'll get better and better the more you do it!
And about the fur resetting, that's sadly just a limitation of the particle fur afaik, one of the many reasons I switched over to geonode hair when it released.
Sailynn uses around 3.5 - 4gb of vram during render. If no motion blur is enabled at least.
19.12.2025 18:09 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0And my two cents about fur: In my experience fur tends to look a lot better when you add more strands, but in turn make the strands really thin, it gives the fur a really soft and fluffy look. Also try to add variation to different settings, that helps to make it more interesting and less monotone
19.12.2025 18:08 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0My GPU sure hates me when I do that ^^
And if you do start dabbling with geonodes, start simple, learn about the bascis of the context, fields and how to handle attributes. Once you know the basics, the whole system opens up immensely.
And I am more than happy that people are enjoying the result of the pain it was to figure out and set all of it up ^^
19.12.2025 17:49 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0For the curious: Sailynn's feathers aren't based on alpha cards nor instances. Every single feather is generated from a single geonode hair strand or curve, based on how it's shaped and a bunch of vertex groups sampled from the body mesh. Every feather is β¨Unique β¨
