Escaping the trap of US tech dependence
Canada needs real digital sovereignty, not our own digital colonizers
When countries get hooked on US tech, their governments are constrained in reining in techβs harms while most of the economic benefits accrue to the United States.
Itβs time to break out of that trap β but that means challenging the Silicon Valley model, not creating our own digital colonizers.

Small 𧡠on my chapter, which combines a review of the literature on #assets with a conceptual argument:
Assets are boundary objects that facilitate various forms of social relations. We thus need to study their lifecycle from assetization, asset management to deassetization to understand them.

What If Tech Execs Donβt Really Need All These Data Centers?
The rush to build new computing and energy infrastructure for artificial intelligence comes with a lot of unintended consequencesβespecially if this new infrastructure isnβt actually needed.
I wrote about the narrative that AI will create an energy crisis: a great way to build unnecessary fossil fuel infrastructure & cement the market share of a few big companies w/o stopping to ask if thatβs necessary
