The idea here is to levy non stop but obviously bullshit prosecutions against Democrats. Then, when Democrats take over in 2026/2028, immediately declare the new narrative is "aren't we all sick of these prosecutions? Thank god the Democrats are now in charge to... not do any! Right? RIGHT?"

The "If you can't beat them, beat everyone" strategy has been a staple of the Trump era. Once again, the plan is to make everyone, media in particular, exhausted of hearing about ridiculous federal prosecutions by the time they get to actually holding any Trumpers accountable.

Okay but Republicans don't care because the point of all this isn't to actually punish anyone; it's to taint the very perception of prosecutions starting in 2029. They want to spend three years making federal investigations look vindictive and meaningless for when they all face them themselves.

A depowered GOP House is literally useless to Trump, who is all in on the Unitary Executive theory. Their sole purpose was to be a rubber stamp and next year they won't even be that anymore. None of this erases the massive damage already done, but the party is so obviously over.

A major sign of things getting dire in DC is when House members start breaking kayfabe like this. It's really, REALLY not fun to be a minority caucus member under a lame duck president. A cushy board seat or academic chairmanship sounds a LOT better and the race for the exits is obvious.

Because it's simply understood that It's Only Bad When Democrats Do It the entirety of the "institutions" that said nothing about 1488NewsTweets.terf getting front row seats will suddenly be VERY UPSET about the freedom of an open press when the White House takes their access away.

Right that's what I mean. It's an instant gimme win for any incoming admin--it's 100% their call and no mechanism exists to control it otherwise--but only Republicans get to push the press around; Democrats aren't allowed. It's like rock-paper-scissors for assholes

One of the very annoying performative-outrage traps that has already been set for the next Democratic administration is they will almost certainly attempt to "restore" the Press Corps to its pre-Trump roster and the current one's immediate tantrum about it will be one for the history books

The actions necessary to even remedy a fraction of what DOGE did will take a level of commitment and funding that rivals the Marshall Plan, and if you expect that to happen from a Congress that won’t even end the filibuster to give people healthcare, godspeed.

I keep pointing this out, but I don’t think people actually fathom the catastrophic loss of expertise that occurred from DOGE’s gutting of the federal government. Imagine if every school teacher in America with more than 20 years experience all vanished tomorrow. This is irreparable damage.

It will actually not be possible to accurately calculate the number of people who will die, directly or indirectly, because of the stuff DOGE did in a matter of months. And as such, not a single person will face any repercussions for it. This is one of the most total victories in American history.

Meanwhile, after the cute little 2-week news cycle of some meaningless public feud with the president, Elon Musk—and probably also Peter Thiel—walked away with their hands on what is likely a database of literally every single American citizen’s most private financial and demographic information.

DOGE was not a failure. Its purpose was to use the completely fabricated claim of “efficiency” to irreparably annihilate vast amounts of federal government infrastructure, which it did instantly, violently, and in ways we will not see the full repair of in our lifetimes.

I think a problem is there’s such a vast difference in the quality range. Brownies can be anywhere from 1–10 depending on the recipe, but even cinnamon rolls straight from the tube are like a 7 baseline.

The Press Secretary’s job is literally to spin and promote the president’s agenda and Leavitt being a horrible person with a horrible boss is completely irrelevant to the objective fact that she is better at that job than Jean-Pierre was.

I’ve made this point before but the biggest luxury item consumed by the median American voter is racism. It’s the thing they most enjoy when they have nothing else to care about and whenever the economy goes to shit it’s the first thing they let go of to tighten their budgets.

The hilarious irony is that probably the one major sector where Trump could dramatically reduce prices, would, of course, be healthcare, but he can’t/won’t because the increases are entirely his doing and fixing them is Democrats’ entire case to not vote for Republicans.
