Yes… hence the β€œfor now at least” at the end of my original comment. But still relieved the immediate exploration plans have been shelved for now

Following strong opposition from local councils & residents, Alcoa has shelved its plans to explore the Perth Hills #jarrah #forests for its #bauxite mining expansion... for now at least.

As I understand it, they were introduced to WA purposefully… including by a former Director of Perth Zoo prior to a royal visit in the early 1900s if Wikipedia is accurate

Although introduced to WA, it’s hard not to like these lovely #birds with their raucous laughing call. This pair have nested in our garden for at least 6 years now and it looks like their nest box needs some roof repairs!

Bobtails are always welcome visitors in our garden… and we’re so lucky to have a wildlife rescue centre close by that can care for sick or injured native critters!

Which means wildlife starting to look for water. Had to rescue this lovely Bobtail lizard from the backyard pool today. He’s currently at a wildlife rescue centre for a checkup and will hopefully be back home soon🀞

Stylidium tenue - Little Fountain Triggerplant

Look closely at a triggerplant and you’ll spot the flower’s sensitive column, carrying both the anther & stigma at the end. The anther develops first, the stigma develops after the anther shrivels 🌿🌱

It feels like it’s been a bumper year for Triggerplants (Stylidium sp.) this year, so a few #Stylidium posts seems appropriate.

First up is Stylidium recurvum, which has put on an amazing display in the Perth Hills this year!

This tiny native mouse is legally considered both dead and alive Animals and plants aren't automatically taken off most national and state extinct species list in Australia if they are rediscovered, leaving them without protection as threatened species.

Schrâdinger's mouse?? 🐭🌿🌱

Currently there are four Australian species, plants & animals, listed as nationally extinct despite them all being recently rediscovered… which means these species get no protection under our environmental laws
