A small fairy-wren in flight about to catch an insect.
New challenge - trying to photograph fairy-wrens as they jump for insects. I might be a while trying to get THIS but in focus. #birds #birdphotography

A Pink Eared Duck has risen to it's full height, it's wings are thrown forward with light streaming through the "fingers' as it scatters tiny glowing drops of water into the darkness.

A Little Eagle flying towards a landing on a tree. It has it's wings starting to fold to land and it's back and all the patterns on it are towards the camera.
It looks so majestic here - but actually they're quite little. Barely bigger than a magpie. But still very very fierce. Maybe not as fierce as a willy wagtail but still. #birds #birdphotography

A Glossy Ibis facing away from the camera and with its head down so that only its back and legs are visible. The background (already naturally dark) has been further darkened to almost black so that only the dull shimmer of the birds feathers and its scaly legs are visible.
I fell down a bit of a rabbit hole photographing Glossy Ibis last year. I swore I wasn't going to do it again, then I took this and I'm obsessed again. #birds #birdphotography

A Glossy Ibis in the foreground with the sun making its amazing feathers glow like bronze. Another ibis is in silhouette just behind it making interesting patterns with the 2 beaks and the grass and water is a soft fuzzy green.
I am seldom more happy than when I am sprawled out lying on wet grass and duck poo, watching birds go about their business. It was cloudy today, but a brief spell of sunshine lit them up like burnished metal. #birds #birdphotography

A bonded pair of Pink Eared Ducks slowly spin in a vortex as they feed whilst apparently gazing into each other's eyes.
These are Pink Eared Ducks and they do this fascinating thing called vortex feeding. The bonded pair swim in a spiral - with their heads at the centre - often maintaining eye contact. It's as romantic as waltzing. #birds #birdphotography

I have this amazing thing with my cleaners where I tell them what I do and don't want cleaned. And they follow my instructions and I pay them. I wonder if this finance person has discovered this amazing new technique. It's called "communication" - it's useful in a variety of scenarios.

Bahahahah. It's normally Americans who are guilty of abbreviating their state and don't realise the rest of the world doesn't know what they're talking about. WA (Western Australia) is really really big, mostly flat, hot and dry and it has some lovely bird species.

A parrot feeding on the ground, taken at eye level.
Another of our lovely parrot species. Variably known as Port Lincoln or Ring-neck parrots, but in WA we call them 28's. I was crawling on the ground again to get this and most of my photos have grass obscuring the birds but I like this one. #birds #birdphotography

After almost 3 hours of walking.....we found this beautiful bird in the carpark. Red Capped Robin at Walyunga. (he wouldn't sit out in the open for us so I've had to play with the background a bit to make him more visible). #birds #birdphotography

I watched a few minutes. It was really really boring. And low energy. Nothing like the spectacles that North Korea, China and Russia have put on. The soldiers marching looked like they were coming home from a defeat.

Little Corellas are even funnier than Galahs. Often derided because they're not really locals, and they can reach plague proportions, they're still amusing. #birds #birdphotography

By the end of Summer we get large contingents of waders in the lake as the inland water bodies dry up. Pied stilts are some of my favourites. The flock at the lake will be moving on soon now that it has started raining. Here was one of those lovely times when they flew TOWARDS me. #birds

We have a lovely little flock of Black Fronted Dotterels at Herdsman lake. They are titchy small and today they were vey busy chasing and yelling at each other. They're very hard to catch in flight due to their size and erratic flight so this made me happy #birds #birdphotography
