The multi-millionaire who bought farmland to avoid tax…

And the man who decimated farming to progress his own career

…are now the self-appointed saviours of farming

On today’s pod we discuss how people have lost their damned minds.

The Death Cap (Amanita phalloides) is the most poisonous of all mushrooms, responsible for 90% of fungi-related deaths each year. Famous victims include Emperor Claudius and Holy Roman Emperor Charles VI. The toxic constituent is α-Amanitin, which causes liver and kidney failure. #fungifriends 🍄

Here is deadly Galerina Marginata. Its common names include funeral bell, deadly skullcap, autumn skullcap and deadly galerina. This is an extremely poisonous fungi containing the same deadly amatoxins as the death cap (Amanita phalloides). #fungifriends

On St Agnes’ Eve, these climactic lines from Keats:

‘…he arose
Ethereal, flush'd, and like a throbbing star
Seen mid the sapphire heaven's deep repose;
Into her dream he melted, as the rose
Blendeth its odour with the violet,—
Solution sweet.’

Oooh gosh, Devil’s Fingers (aka Clathrus Archeri) and the unruptured egg of Phallus Impudicus… Have you ever eaten the egg? Apparently it’s quite tasty.
