That’s deplorable. I have my issues with the forum but that right there is something else entirely. I’m glad I hardly post there anymore.

As a Hitchcock nerd who admires the entire filmography I try not to, but I can’t help it sometimes. As long as people don’t write off the less discussed films and only know the most famous ones I’m ok.

The scans themselves are great. Unfortunately they’ve been handled less than admirably with some suffering frozen grain. But even with that they’re a gazillion miles ahead of the horrible old Lowry masters. This is a mixed bag to say the least.

Here’s one of the most screwed up remix moments I’ve ever encountered. It’s unmistakable. They cut THE INTRODUCTION LINE!

The start of Bond’s line is now some sort of squeak or bird noise instead of words:

Some of the errors, deletions and sloppy work I’ve found so far in the terribly defective Atmos remixes of the Connery era #jamesbond 4K UHDs. These have hideous noise reduction levels, music replacements and crazy deletions. Do not ever listen to these botched things!!

I’m preparing to go as detailed as I can. People need to know how much work went into these and how they obliterate virtually every past reissue and video master the films have ever had.

They tweaked all kinds of things and every single effects shot so I wouldn’t be surprised if more production goofs were also removed. This all started with the DVD removing the snake reflection and guiding rod on the boulder from Raiders.

My research journey began with these films over 20 years ago as a geeky teen.

I’m trying to read all of the DC Pulp Heroes annuals from 1997. This Superman story is very fun with some Doc Savage flavor-and then on the last page there’s a cameo of Doc and the Fabulous Five. This makes me deliriously happy.

Haha, the dialogue and sudden rug pulling of the theatrical ending almost reads like the novel Deckard could write at the Overlook…

The most underrated of Hammer’s masterpieces and one of the great sequels. It’s the direction they could’ve gone in had they stayed with the more intelligent yet fun films. Sadly it wasn’t to be as Evil of Frankenstein was a reboot several years later.

There’s no telling where the Warner splintering could end up.

I’d say the one in Mask of Fu Manchu. It’s just tossed over a wall and seems so real that either they somehow got one or MGM made the best fake hand movie prop that money could buy.

It was an odd experience tweaking this moment with my goofy impressions to talk about video issues in the recent Warner 4K master.

You definitely should as all of the films are truly important and it’s doubtful Sony will release all of them separately. The packaging is weird and they definitely cut some corners but it is still so incredibly essential.

Sony released it on DVD in a boxset and as MOD. On Blu-ray, they released an MOD disc of that master first and then basically included a version of that in the Collection box set.

It’s the one I’ve championed/shown/begged people to watch the most over the years. Watching every film leading up to it really hammers home just how much of a watershed moment it is creatively. I love Platinum Blonde but even there you can tell they’re trying to get the themes adjusted just right.
