Now that my computer is finally back from the shop.... Here's a video from all the way back in March or April where I took a week and let whatever holds came in on the Libby app decide what I read! link in thread

I've been asked the same question many times the last week - why was The Wheel of Time cancelled? And the truth is, I don't know. I wish I could say something clear and tidy that explains to all those who love it why it's coming to an end, but sadly, I can't. What I can say is that the actors and crew on our show are the most talented and wonderful group of people I've ever had the pleasure to work with. And we've all been incredibly lucky to make something that not only was beloved by fans (and even critics! ha!), but was also watched by huge numbers of people all over the world, appearing in the Nielsen Top 10 for nearly 20 weeks, a feat very few shows have been able to match in the last decade.
One of my core goals in making this show, even from the earliest crafting of the pitch, has been to tell the whole story. Because the Wheel of Time books do what television has always done best - get better as they go. And as our actors and team came on board, they too could see the potential if we were allowed to finish this incredible story. We made many sacrifices, both personal and creative, along the way to get to that ending, so coming up short feels like a devastating blow for all of us.
Much has been written about this larger trend in TV toward fewer seasons with less episodes and finding quicker ways to acquire additional streaming subscribers. But I genuinely believe that this goes against the fundamental strength of television long-form storytelling. It is an art form, much like epic fantasy, which at its very best, gives people a place to go and spend time with the characters that they love year after year after year. And I believe there are executives, studios, and networks who know that. I believe that we will find our way through this current iteration of the industry and back to what we do best - bringing great characters into people's living rooms and lives every week.
Will the Wheel of Time get to do that with another network and finish the story? Sadly, it's not something that happens often. But it does happen. In fact, one of the reasons we first chose Amazon as a home for the show was because they were in the midst of picking up The Expanse after SYFY cancelled it. So, who knows, perhaps the Wheel of Time show will do what the books have always managed to do since day one - defy the traditional definitions of "beginnings" and "ends". I certainly hope it does - because this book series and these fans deserve to see the story finished.
BREAKING: Rafe Judkins speaks for the first time since the show's cancellation.
The decision to cancel seems to be beyond the control of anyone who's worked creatively on the show. This has always been a studio/streamer play.

Photo alt: Nikhil (a copper-skinned man with shoulder-length dark brown hair) sits while grinning and pointing at a piece of paper. He's wearing a t-shirt that says "the hills of tanchico" in 5 lines in the trans pride colors. The paper includes the same details as the original post.

I am so, so conflicted. This was on track to be the best episode of the show yet for me (shocking given the lack of Egwene!), but then the last few minutes.... It's gonna take time to process.

The Last Session by Julia Bartz
What made this a 4 instead of a 5 is that Thea's obsession that kicked off the plot for this book didn't quite work for me. But once we're at the Center, I was all in on the story. Really gripped and engaged all the way through.

Fuck JKR. 100% of the profit from these two designs from The Wheel of Time is going to charities supporting trans & queer folks. #TheWheelofTime #TheHillsofTanchico #wotskies feelinmyshelf.threadless.com

Her tone is so done. Very "let's just move on from that because I don't even care."
06.04.2025 13:24 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Anyway, this probably won't even post, but the colorism and ableism in this episode bothered me a lot more than what happened with Rand or Faile
It does not have to be deliberate for it to be true that there's a pattern of darker-skinned characters shown experiencing more brutal treatment

Real Queer America by Samantha Allen
Good book! More memoir than deep exploration of culture and society, but one that does give an interesting insight into queer communities in red states. I wish there'd been some discussion of queerness not just in urban centers, but still good!

Celestial Monsters by Aiden Thomas
I feel similarly about this book as I did about the first in the series. I would recommend it to the target audience, but my personal enjoyment was relatively low.

A Lady for a Duke by Alexis Hall
There was a lot to love about this book. The characters were interesting and went through compelling growth. There's beautiful exploration or queerness and acceptance. I cried at the epilogue. But I just never quite bought the couple.

Finding Echoes by Fox Meadows
I found the story interesting enough, but it took 2/3 of the book for me to get my feet under me and appreciate it. I would loved a longer novel set in the same world with more time to develop everything.

I don't know how to talk about how much I like this book or why. I love horror as an outlet to explore trauma. This messy, dramatic family grieving and healing together is just beautiful.

The Sunbearer Trials by Aiden Thomas
I really liked the concepts in this book, and I will readily recommend it for a middle grade to YA audience. But for my personal enjoyment, it just didn't quite do enough. I wanted deeper world building and more complex characters

The Last Hour Between Worlds by Melissa Caruso
This is incredible, and as always when I love a book, it's impossible to really explain why. Infinity Train vibes with a sapphic batman/catwoman romance and wonderful ruminations on new motherhood. Plus a mysterious game!

Little Women by Louisa May Alcott
Incredible first part, mediocre and disappointing second part. I loved seeing a year in the lives of these girls, but as the scope grew it lost me. The girls hanged in unbelievable ways and gave up their dreams in ways I didn't like.
