You know with almost any other retailer in the world I can take a faulty product to any register in any store.
But not #Apple.
In a system bordering of commercial facism, I have to book appointments, endure being rerouted to a different store .
And sit for an hour in a sea of bored teal shirts.
"I am thankful that in a troubled world no calamity can prevent the return of Spring."
~ Helen Keller
The best fossil-fuel company executives and right-wing politicians in the world are working on that problem night and day.
One day soon, no one will ever look forward to spring again.
#bluesky is now at a bit more than 42 million accounts.
Which means it now has a nominally larger population than the world’s most populous city - Jakarta
Mocking or encouraging….?
Some mornings it’s difficult to say.
A large sprawling multi-level organisation full of people who spent years fighting their own small entrenched corners and jockeying for positions - like, for the sake of argument, the ALP - doesn’t pivot.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@bsky.app I don’t know how, but you seem to have got control of the catfishing bots.
Thanks.
I’ve never considered myself socially conservative or even prudish.
But still, I was, shall we say discomforted, by the number of young female arse-cracks on display at my local beach this morning.
When did g-strings become mainstream swimwear?
The fact that a private citizen, by virtue of nothing more than wealth, can make decisions directly affecting the course of a war between two nation states is a clear sign something is deeply amiss in how power now works.
Personally I’m on Ukraine’s side - but my point stands.
Xenophobia isn’t a white European trait. It’s pretty ubiquitous.
And emotional self interest is it’s own thing. I’ve met Chinese immigrants who believe ‘foreign’ Chinese investors are why house prices are so high.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
It’s immigration. And the polling is clear that without it’s anti immigration rhetoric ON would be marginal.
I’m don’t think immigration is harming anything.
But it is an explanation for so many perceived ills that people find compelling.
The battle isn’t ON. It’s giving people a better villain.
Good lord 😳
The kid from Harold and Maude just died…. at 70 years of age.
I feel so…..
I understand why ‘information poor’ voters might think immigration is to blame for their problems.
But that’s a very cynical and craven position to take by the leader of a major party - who is anything but information poor.

Good to see QUT stepping in to bring Meanjin back from the brink.
The Gallup decision.
Another brick removed from the Jenga tower of the U.S. political system.
The ALP now sincerely believe that if the richest %20 of the country are doing well they are doing everything right. And government has no ability to “create wealth”.
So fasten your seatbelts, keep your hands inside the ride. The right-wing roller coaster is about to start its run.

I was reading an article about a breakthrough gene therapy for leukaemia.
It has the tagline: “Revolutionising healthcare through science”
But as someone who lost his wife to cancer I know it’s a false promise without a revolution in funding, access, intellectual property, and ownership.
I was walking along the Yarra near Fairfield one day and looked up to see literally thousands of bats asleep in the branches above my head.
Awesome- and more than a bit spooky.

My usual cafe is close to repair something. So I relying on the substitute today.
Not too shabby.
Depending on how it is done, biometric verification is potentially more dangerous.
You can get a new driver’s license if that data was hacked. You can’t get a new face.
In the dictionary, under “clusterfuck” it just says, “See Adelaide Writers Week.

I have a delightful local where I enjoy a glass of red and do my crossword in peace.
Unfortunately this will close for good at the end of December.
I will miss it.
Please don’t misinterpret this post - violent radicals are a plague on us all and anything we can do to thwart them is welcome.
But I have to say I am surprised to learn that a prayer hall can be illegal.

“…governments have shirked their duty to…”, pretty much sums up everything that has happened since 1980
#AI
hello everybody…
There is one use for AI - the text chat ones - that everybody should take advantage of…
…reading through all those insanely long and obtuse end user licensing agreements we all click through to get a summary of what we are actually getting and what we are signing away.
Collective punishment - of any group for any reason - is a crime.
Collective blame is an incitement to crime.
When it comes to the actions of governments that can seem like a fine line.
If you consider yourself a grown up, learn to walk it.

While we debate gun laws in this country let’s all remember…
Just because something isn’t the whole solution it may still be an absolutely necessary part of the solution.

Agreed. It should be illegal for any sports shooter to remove any firearm they own from a registered firing range at which they are a member.
And yes, that means an end to legal recreational hunting.
I mean, we outlawed street racing didn’t we.
Maybe it’s time to stop all the band aid measures and shut down the algorithm-driven sewers of hate and misinformation being pumped into our societies by billionaire tech bros and their freedom-of-hate-speech sophistry.
