I can’t do a lot about much going on in the world, but with the shameful actions of my country’s leaders today, John Barbour’s poem THE BRUS has been on my mind.

This is my translation of “A! Fredom is a noble thing” from THE BRUS. May this 650-year-old poem remind us of the human need for liberty.

Daly received fellowships for her graduate studies due to the need for scientists to support the war effort. Her work advanced our understanding of nucleic acids and protein synthesis. Watson and Crick cited one of Daly’s papers when accepting the Nobel Prize for describing the structure of DNA. /3

Marie Maynard Daly was the first African American woman in the U.S. to receive a Ph.D. in chemistry. Among many contributions, she established the relationship between cholesterol, hypertension and atherosclerosis. /1

In the tiny community of Mineral Springs, Arkansas, near my hometown of Nashville, Arkansas, American Legion Post 332 is named in honor of the Tuskegee Airmen. Southwest Arkansas will never forget their service or their bravery.

Democracy depends in part on people who refuse to comply with unlawful (and/or unethical) orders.

Only one media outlet is reporting that LA Mayor Karen Bass' mic was turned off during the roundtable with Donald Trump last night.

None of them are reporting that they physically took away her microphone too because she kept trying to fact check him.

Shameful.

If I got a defiant email from a guy named “Hannibal,” I think I’d either rëevaluate my life choices or go looking for either: a guy named “Scipio Africanus” or a woman named “Clarice.”
