In general, the temperature on the ground here is a lot cooler than media (especially Japanese traditional and social media) would make you think. Most people are pragmatic. They don't fall for rage bait, either from the Party or elsewhere. Things that were liked before will continue to be liked.

But at a live performance the organist often will hold much longer, to the point of fan service. "Ahhhh! It's rattling every pillar of the building and melting your brain (in a good way). Seriously, do I have to let go? Let's do just a little more. Life is short, you must enjoy it!"

Random observation... Organ music often ends with a big chord, all stops pulled out. There's a fermata, so you hold it a moment. On recordings, they usually don't hold too long. "Well, it's just a record, so let's not be too indulgent." -->

This was the breaking point for me. I was holding off using ExplorerPatcher just in case it was still buggy. It hasn't bricked my machine, so far. Nice to see 90 degree corners again :)

Finally got the new old start menu in Windows 11, after months of a phased rollout. It has a list view again, though it takes up half the screen for no apparent purpose. When you click a folder you get not a menu tree but... tiles. So close. Keep trying, friends.

Awesome :) I played around with a few distros over the years. Philosophically I loved them, but work apps and games kept me tethered to Windows. I think the tipping point for me is arriving now. Lots of cross-platform and browser based stuff makes it feasible.

That's the plan. Use it for as long as I can. If 15 years later I hit end of software support again, can just replace chip/mobo, but reuse the rest.

Had always built for upper-middle cost performance. This is my first (probably only?) stupid fast spec. Is a chonky boy.

It wasn't being used, so never moved from that spot. This week we took it out to play with it. Wherever we move it, she follows and sits to keep it company. I guess they are old friends, now?

Noodle was a feral cat. For the first week in our apartment, she hid in the back of an amplifier, only coming out at night. We put all of the things she needed around the amp, so she wouldn't avoid eating or drinking. Even now, her food bowls and bed are next to it. -->

"deal with people as individuals and avoid labeling entire societies as this or that"
I say this to myself every morning before I open a browser window or walk out the door.

Hover is over
This is my UI design advice inspired from “Eval is evil.” Stop relying on hover for revealing hidden actions, or providing essential...
"Remember the web page ads that popped up when you only hovered on a word? Remember those feelings? That feeling is exactly what made Anakin Skywalker turn to the dark side." ssg.dev/hover-is-ove...

“The Wonderful Power of Storytelling,” by Bruce Sterling, 1991
*This speech was delivered thirty-three years ago, and that was quite a different world. The audience hadn’t been expecting much, because…
AI is eating the career of every creative whose work can be easily described, modeled and predicted.
Spend time learning how to think along orthogonal, unpredictable, new (or forgotten) paths... make your mind hard to model.

Used Tweetdeck to filter further, so it's annoying to have it paywalled by Musk. Now I just take people out of lists if they are too noisy or too angry.
Facebook just became hopeless, so I gave up and stopped using it! (^^)

I don't actually do that, though (trying to "train" the algorithm). I cut it off completely, if I can. I used lists in Twitter since day one. At first it was just for topic organization. That they are chronological and contain all posts became a benefit later. -->

For me, it's less about how many accounts (though less is better), but avoiding the algorithmic funnels and being more selective/intentional about who I follow. I've always done this, to some extent, but at this point I feel I have to get more aggressive about it.
