Wildfire smoke can create dangerous community air pollution that poses an immediate risk to health and life. Reduce your exposure and that of vulnerable community members - especially children, older adults and people with heart disease, asthma, and immunocompromised conditions.

Smoke is a dangerous mixture of pollutants - ozone, carbon monoxide, polycyclic aromatic compounds and high concentrations of fine particles or particulate matter (PM2.5) that can be inhaled deep into the lungs. Reduce your exposure by wearing a well-fitting N95 respirator (cloth masks are not effective) and staying indoors.

Reduce smoke in your vehicle by keeping the windows and vents closed and running the air conditioner in recirculate mode.

Use a portable air cleaner with an efficient filter (MERV 13 or greater), along with central air systems with efficient filters. When the air quality improves, air out your home to reduce indoor air pollution.

As more working families experience the smoke from wildfires across the country, we wanted to re-share these helpful tips to keep you and your loved ones safe.
