Whoa. Did not see that coming.

Settlement Details: Authors will receive approximately $3,000 per qualifying title. About 500,000 titles qualify out of millions downloaded. Books must have ISBN/ASIN numbers and proper Copyright Office registration timing to be eligible.

Next Steps: The settlement administrator will create a searchable database in mid-October for authors to check if their work is included. Official notices with claim forms will be sent directly to eligible authors.

No Future Rights: The settlement only covers past piracy. Anthropic must destroy all pirated copies and obtain books legally going forward. Any future pirated use will create new liability.

One of Many Cases: This settlement doesn't affect other AI lawsuits. Each case proceeds independently with potential separate payouts. We expect more licensing opportunities as AI companies seek legal solutions.
