As AI has come into play over the past few years I’ve been finding @ddmeyer.bsky.social analysis really helpful. This insight is fascinating… as much as people think tech will replace teachers, AI still has a way to go…

Why is this so satisfying when they line up at the end and interfere so beautifully?!?! My nerdy ❤️ is just so happy!!!
Some people are developing the coolest classroom demos with 3D printers.
🥰 I’ve also taken time to help teach the loudest in class to learn how to make space for and uplift others. There’s more than one spotlight, and one of the most rewarding things is seeing that spotlight shine on someone standing beside you.
And I think if they taught teachers how to critically analyze curriculum it would be the change you’re looking for. But it will take time and people pushing for change.
It benefits them. It’s a reflection of society and what they want us to value. I’m not sure how it works in the states but teachers here are not taught to critically dive into their curriculum to look for influence. Someone somewhere decided to gate-keep that knowledge…
Im a teacher in Canada who sees the same things. I actually just wrapped a paper this morning on neoliberalism influence on our science curriculum. And to answer your question there are some strong powerful groups and movements who work in the background and want education to be just like this. 😬
I’m in my curriculum course tonight (my fav!!!) and we’re talking about curriculum mapping and the power behind visualizing it.
One thing I do to start a course is put each expectation on a coloured post it to help me sequence, find repetitions, identify good cross-concept ideas… it’s sooo helpful!
Just building on @cossettej.bsky.social mention of the magnetic timer… I used it for my teacher PD this weekend and LOVED it. Even just for myself, it helped me keep everything moving smoothly!
A timer in the classroom feels weird but it’s actually incredibly effective. I’ve seen this one in action and it’s great!!!
I find myself saying “sssshhhhh” for a moment to quiet a large group when I’m out with my friends or family 🤦♀️ sadly it always works in social situations too….
I’m so excited to see the #ITeachPhysics community back in action!!!! 🥰 I missed you all!!!
