it’s why I can’t get rid of Facebook
extremely heated debate over a proposed noise ordinance back home. lines are being drawn, and blood feuds declared. I can’t look away
I’m glad you posted this. Because I was scrolling Instagram, minding my own business, when I got served a vague apology from someone calling themselvesThe Woke Ginger, and basically did this
we expelled them, blacklisted them, called cops to beat the shit out of them, and deported them. why aren't they protesting again? i'm very smart
Brent Bozell is not just a random dude, but was an explicit pro-apartheid activist in the 80s, and his dad (one of Bill Buckley's best buds) was an admirer of Franco who moved the family to Francoist Spain for a while
Abigail Spanberger has agitated every chud in the state of Virginia. Facebook is in full meltdown. You’d think she was about to disarm and then decapitate every camo-wearing neckbeard I went to high school with
it’s terrific for my blood sugar management but I also need help opening my water bottle now. doesn’t seem ideal, and none of the doctors I’ve seen have given me any advice about rebuilding muscle mass
not a fan of ‘deconstruction’ as a framework, for reasons laid out here: newrepublic.com/article/1794... But! It was Iraq, which everyone around me supported. Plus gender, and general cruelty, especially toward the poor.
it’s the same with cozy SFF and progression fantasy. fans want to self-insert. I don’t think they want to be surprised or challenged in any way. and it’s fine to indulge in a little popcorn sometimes, but if that’s all you ever seek out, you’ve got a problem
these people aren’t reading. they’re consuming content. they might as well stare at TikTok for hours
it wouldn’t have been funny in 2013, either!
It's stiff competition, but Nellie Bowles may actually be the most evil, vapid person to work at her wife's stupid website:
New study analyzing fertility data and the volume of pronatalist media coverage finds the two are unrelated, suggesting “pronatalist media discourse selectively deploys demographic evidence in order to operate as an ideological regime of truth.”

I do enjoy Carolina style!
this is very good to know!
the sauce is a problem! (I’m type 2 and don’t use insulin, so ymmv)
“consider hummus as a healthy alternative.” I like hummus but also, fuck you
In this episode, @sarahjones.bsky.social & I discuss the sponsor of the KS legislation stripping trans people of their drivers licenses, an alum of the Statesmen Academy, a project of Focus on the Family's political arm, something I wrote about in 2022:

googled “can diabetics eat barbecue.” huge mistake. there are things I would rather not know
New Reign of Error episode is with the great @sarahjones.bsky.social, and we talk about how the Christian right tries to mainstream its sadistic war on trans people, its escalating anti-abortion strategies, and the weird evangelical-MAHA politics:

thank you so much for having me on!
Nobody hates living veterans more than Republicans. Dead veterans they can exploit in videos. But living veterans with opinions and medical needs are literally offensive to conservatives.
NOT JUST THIS:
Two other Democratic lawmakers in North Carolina who sided with the GOP to overturn vetoes of major bills (e.g. anti-trans legislation) are also losing in their primaries so far to progressive challengers.
This could be a major night in NC.
What often gets missed in stories about declining birth rates is that they're due to declines specifically among young women. Young women are exercising reproductive autonomy and are making considered decisions about whether and when to have children.
This is a good thing.
And so First Things (the leading Catholic magazine of religion and public life) joins evangelicals in making the pivot from “Christian nationalism isn’t a real thing” to “Actually, Christian nationalism is awesome and we need it!”
legends never die
a lot to consider here, but: “the back of her cervix?”
Border Patrol released Nurul Amin Shah Alam, a 56 yo man, nearly blind with serious medical conditions, at "an old address & his family had since moved" in Buffalo, NY in the winter. "His family was not initially notified." He was found dead. @news4buffalo.bsky.social
