3. Media Emulation is fantastic when you do it right. But when you prioritize tropes and aesthetics over themes, it's always gonna come across as flat and boring. Good media emulation should still be fun to people who haven't watched the thing that you're inspired by.

The best players, including in Actual Play, are the ones who buy-in early and enthusiastically beyond their character. People rooting for the other players, investigating the world, listening when other people talk, giving big reactions when cool stuff happens, cheering, gasping, fretting!

Porn and art with sexual themes deserve to exist on their own merit, not because censoring them has knock-on effects for non-sexual content. Please stop expressing outrage by implying that censorship would be okay if it *just* affected sex workers and artists engaging with sexual themes.

Stuff has been bothering me for a while, and the list kept getting longer so here's baby's first video essay featuring the CRiT awards. This includes my thoughts on the recent paid promotions, resharing of AI art and the lack of transparency from the team.

The bashing of other nominees and commissioning celebrity advertisement is wholly antithetical to the purported goal of a fair and merit-based industry awards for small creators. Thank you so, so for bringing this to light. Seriously.

Having a hard time reconciling exactly what these policies will mean for game designers who sell on itch.io in any capacity. So many games "contain" these themes and topics without having them as part of the narrative... the line isn't in the sand, it's somewhere underwater and constantly moving.

I’m watching this right now— speaking as a person who has been nominated every year the awards have existed, I KNEW that any publicly-voted awards are a popularity contest— but I did NOT know about this other stuff.
