Trump believes in nothing, certainly not in the God or Country he blahs on about. He's lying and he assumes everybody else is too, so is pathologically unable to believe that anyone believes in their God or their country. So, Zelenskyy and the Iranian Mullahs are both entirely mysterious to him.

Acting as If We Had Hope. OR understanding that hope/ambition is how they get you to do as you're told. And do nothing for its own sake. On the other hand, if the arts are only for those who can afford to do it for nothing, then we're up another branch of shit creek.
I doubt VERY much that the Israelis ACTUALLY think there's going to be a secular, democratic takeover in Iran. Leave alone actually WANTING one. A weakened, unpopular dictatorship that they can bomb and sanction at will is MUCH more to their taste, I'd have thought.

I have just written to my LD MP. The new LD idea on nuclear weapons is bonkers. There was a huge opportunity here for them to say that they would ditch nukes (which from a military perspective is the right thing to do). But no, they want to make our own.
Hope is a duty, but you have to put it where you think it might do some good.
The price to extract is the conclusion of a grand bargain for the Middle East that includes a viable Palestinian State...
They also need to recognise that they are being slow marched into a bottomless pit. That the call for ships will be followed by a call for ground troops.
How SHOULD they respond and how WILL they respond? By exacting a price.
This is the second last thing they want. Unfortunately, the thing they want least is to consider that they may have been mistaken.
I suppose the motivation behind posting then, is getting PAST that sense of failure...and exploring with others the possibilities that exist...or MIGHT exist. And, George, I've ALWAYS known where to find you...and others ...it's just that I'd prefer it if I could pay you...
The only things that have held me back...are that I DID all that for a LONG time...and a good part of my working life as a playwright/activist since has been spent trying to get decent remuneration for myself and others writing professionally. So where we are feels like failure...and not nice.

We have to get it together as artists. No arts organisation or funder or producer is going to have the guts to do it for us. We have to do it ourselves. We have to aspire to reach audiences ourselves....writers, actors... Who's with me?
As a Scot, I think qualification was the prize. Actually playing in the tournament was always an optional extra. So it's easy for us to say: Boycott the bastard. (For the English, who might even WIN, it's trickier...)

Once upon a time, I wrote a proposal for a play called "The Golem." It concerned Stanislaus Ulam , who designed the physics of the H bomb in 1944, and whose ancestral tradition held that among hs ancestors had been the Rabbi who gave life to the Golem in old Prague.
