when you don’t put up Xmas decorations because you have to walk out in 30 seconds flat if you feel the heat around the corner.
Very behind on updating my #noirvember 24 watches but here’s Lizbeth Scott to tide everyone over
Film eleven of #Noirvember, film eleven of #noirfest was Scarlett Street (1945). Love this film having discovered it last Noirvember, love how it goes from comedy to tragedy to existential horror. Amazing and a must watch for any noir fan #noirvember24
Film ten of #Noirvember (shown at #noirfest so I’m counting it) was Bogart: Life comes in Flashes (2024). A preview before general release, which was nice. Good documentary, can’t imagine it adds much more than existing biographies but this was enjoyable and moving. Weird seeing Bogie in colour tho
Terrific stuff, the print looked like the film was made yesterday (in a good way). Couldn’t find a poster of the silent version sadly. The scene in the below screenshot was incredible and I’m amazed there aren’t t-shirts or prints with Anny Ondra on everywhere
Film nine of #Noirvember, film nine of the #noirfest was Blackmail (1929)
This was the Silent version with amazing accompaniment by Neil Brand. Never seen a silent noir in the cinema, and never seen one with live accompaniment, amazing experience. Film and music were both fantastic #noirvember24
Film eight of #Noirvember and film eight of #noirfest was Gilda (1946). Another first time watch for me, great performances all round and some amazing photography. Rita Hayworth of course is spectacular and the triangle with Glenn Ford, Rita and George Macready is 👌 #noirvember24
Film seven of #noirvember and seventh film watched at #noirfest was Body Heat (1981). A very sweaty film, Kathleen Turner is of course excellent, William Hurt I have less fondness for which does affect my enjoyment. Still a other great neo-noir though #noirvember24
Slightly eavesdropped on a conversation with the ladies next to me, one of whom said she’d tried to live her life like bookstore girl, which is fair enough and a good lifestyle choice.
Film six of noirvember, film six of #noirfest was The Big Sleep (1946). Around every corner the most beautiful woman in history, all after Humphrey Bogart’s attention. A classic of course. #noirvember #noirvember24
Film five of noirvember and film five of #noirfest was Night and the City (1950).
First time watch, great seeing London in a noir on the big screen. Very bleak! Intense wrestling! Good!
#noirvember #noirvember24
Film four of Noirvember, film four of #noirfest was Out of the Past (1947). Pretty much perfect noir, amazing script, performances and style. Again, first time seeing on the big screen. #noirvember #noirvember24
Film three of Noirvember, film three of #noirfest was To Have and Have Not (1944). Not quite Casablanca but still a great film, not that Noirish either but hey it was a Noir festival so I’m counting it #noirvember #noirvember24
Second film of Noirvember, second film of #filmnoirfest at the Plaza Cinema in Weston Super Mare was Point Blank (which also made an appearance last Noirvember). Very. Good. Film. Pleased to have seen it on the big screen (a theme that ran through the whole festival) #noirvember #noirvember24
1st film of Noirvember and the 1st film of the 1st UK film noir fest 2024 was The Big Sleep. Lot of 1sts there. Viewing this on the big screen was a great experience. Hadn’t realised Glenn Ford was Pa Kent in Superman The Movie till this viewing. Gloria Grahame MVP #noirvember #noirvember24
Forgot I’d added a few of my Noirvember watches on here last year so going to try and update what I’ve watched so far this year as it’s been great so far and included my first trip to a film festival 📽️🎞️ #noirvember #noirvember24
That’s your next book I hope, a PI out of time
Film 27 in Noirvember. Black Coal, Thin Ice (2014). Great to see something in a different cultural space to many of the noirs I’ve watched this month. Will try and curate a more worldwide list next year. Good film, some beautiful photography #noirvember #noirvember23
Film 26 in Noirvember. Crossfire (1947), Socially conscious noir which is sadly still relevant today. Good stuff, Some great scenes, particularly the one with Paul Kelly #noirvember #noirvember23
Film 25 in Noirvember. Raw Deal (1948). Beautifully shot but think I need a rewatch to fully appreciate as had intended to watch something else but there was an issue with the Blu ray player 🙄#noirvember #noirvember23
Film 24 in Noirvember, The Big Combo (1955) really enjoyed this. Great characters and some terrific scenes. All the stuff with a characters hearing aid is particularly memorable. Great watch! #noirvember #noirvember23
Film 23 in Noirvember, Kiss Me Deadly (1955) all of your classic Noir ingredients mixed up just right with atomic paranoia. Loved this, from the weird way the credits roll to the incredible ending. Great stuff #noirvember #noirvember23
Film 22 in Noirvember, Laura (1944). I’d only heard about this as a classic noir so didn’t know any plot details. Interesting that it occupies a more ‘high class’ space than many noirs. Loved the cop catching everyone he interviews out and them immediately changing their stories! V good! #noirvember
There’s a select scene commentary on the Blu ray of this with David Mamet Jack Nicholson and Bob Rafelson which 5 minutes in is already more entertaining than the film
Having read a bit about the film over the years sounds like the production and release are more interesting than the final film. Shame.
Film 21 in Noirvember, The Postman Always Rings Twice (1981) Doesn’t match the first film version sadly. Some good performances but the whole thing is so dour and the characters so unlikeable (not that characters in noir have to be likeable) it’s a slog #noirvember #noirvember23
“A man past his forties shouldn’t have to run anymore”, as someone in his 40s I can identify.
Film 20 in Noirvember, possibly stretching the noir definition a little as it’s more of a sporting melodrama. Enjoyable picture though and Boagrt’s a commanding presence in his final role as someone trying to keep his soul while also selling out for money #noirvember #noirvember23
