Panorama of the eastern side of Funadomari Bay and Lake Kushu on Rebun.
Over a week into the field season and I’m considering disappearing into the hills and never returning. At least the views are pretty from a spot that took 10+ years to reach.

A cutout of cute anime girl with short green hair with a purple hoody and grey slacks with a black cat introducing themselves as Zettai Reiko and Schrödinger, possible mascots of the physics department at Hokudai.
Hokudai’s museum had a curious cutout of what I assume is the anime mascot and her cat Schrödinger for the Physics department. I support the development of more departmental mascots and the eventually gatcha game provided it supports campus infrastructure.

Portfolio update : The Mirror of Pride
"She's been following me for several days; I only see her at dusk. She always stays about ten paces away. When I confront her, she claims to be my shadow. I then asked her if I was her light. She replied that I was confusing my pride with her patience."

Lol, the point was that we need solidarity to fight AI. Undermining any form of protest silences people who might otherwise stand with you. If we only look at how one industry gets hurt, we make it harder to fight AI across the board. And in blocking potential allies, you hamper shared goals.

Shouting online doesn’t matter says man shouting online who wants you to read more of his shouting….
All forms of social activism are valid and it’s silly to invalidate one over the other.
Sure, one might be more effective on certain platforms, but the harm of AI is not isolated to translation.

As part of an open trip to Philly, my high school offered the Mütter Museum. It was framed as an extension of the anatomy course. However, the teachers did little to address the nature of the collections and collecting, leaning into its voyeuristic nature. Even back then, I had no interest in going.

If I'm remembering this correctly, Kate Quinn, the ex-museum director, was the one that started the museum audit. She was then pushed out of her job when people (including Neil Gaiman) didn't like her looking into the ethics of their favorite "gothy" museum.
And WELP.

Poster design intended to look like stratigraphy with three layers as vignettes featuring archaeological themes from an upcoming conference. The first features an astronaut floating near a metal structure above earth. The second zooms in on rock art in progress with a hand tracing a design in white pigment. The third features a small excavation with a figure examining a find in situ as a colleague looks on.
I've been quiet lately while submitting and defending my PhD in Japanese. I'm still not sure I'm qualified, but here we are. Amid the chaos I took a drawing break. Anxiety insisted it be “productive,” so I made a design for the WAC poster. It’s “very imaginative,” and I’m good with that.
