A joint media release from the Observatory Science Centre (OSC) and Bader College (for Queen’s University Canada) has announced that a ten-year extended lease has been agreed between the parties.

Future of Herstmonceux Observatory looks secure after 'agreement' The owners of Herstmonceux Observatory say they have agreed to extend its lease beyond 2026.

It was great to hear during the special event at the castle today, that they are currently in negotiations with the science centre & are looking forward to building a relationship with them. So fingers crossed for positive outcome of these discussions soon!

So the sun sets on another stargazing season at The Observatory Science Centre. Last night's themed event for the Lyrids meteor shower included an excellent talk from @robertmassey.bsky.social & some lovely views in Dome D of M35, a galaxy 35 million light years away.

Another great stargazing evening last night at the Observatory. In Dome D, a highlight was a 'toenail' Venus seen shortly before she set. Just 3% illuminated. Lovely views of our nearest stellar nursery, the Orion Nebula(M42), Jupiter with its four largest moons & our Moon, full & low in the West.

Happy ‘Heavenly’ Birthday Sir Patrick Moore, who would have been 102 today!

When Science Projects took over the observatory 30 years ago, he declared that the Observatory had been “Saved for Science!”

On Sunday, the Observatory Science Centre hosted another successful Telescope Clinic, a course designed to show absolute beginners how to set up & use their telescopes with confidence.
