Every time a woman runs for president I hear that she’s too emotional and unstable to make wartime decisions, unlike the men in charge who make really reasonable decisions like bombing kids to death, starting water wars, and poisoning the entire planet

This is one of the biggest peeves I have with urban sprawl. If developers and homeowners in the neighbourhoods outside the Henday were forced to pay (either in home price or taxes) fair value for what costs the city absorbs downtown living would be much more attractive financially.
Hard not to look at the top and bottom of this chart as a Canadian and feel pity and fear for our nearest neighbour and a sense of quiet pride for ourselves. The societal and political ramifications of these attitudes are deeply interesting.

The other thing separatists ignore is the sheer cost of standing up a bureaucracy to replace what the federal government does currently (not only replacing the CRA, but also things like regulating pharmaceuticals and medical devices). Things you can't really function without.

Stressful morning. A homeless young mom with small children fled abuse. Shelters are full. After my complaint to the Minister’s office, Income Support called her and said no more hotel extensions. If true, tomorrow two young kids could be on the street—in this weather!
