I gave into peer pressure and started a writer twitter :( Self-publishers gotta do their own marketing after all 🥲

If you're an author, and you spent X amount of time crafting a whole book, commit to your vision.

And that includes the business side.

Because we are friends, she let me know that I shouldn't hand that feedback so freely. In return, I handed her a contract so she could have that to reference in the future with other people that don't care about her, who might try to take advantage. We watched out for each other 🧵

some of the shadiest things. A man dressing as his grandmother to steal money. A daughter not disclosing their mother's death/funeral so she could get free money from her mom's best friend (who sent her mother $100 monthly). Businesses and money have no feelings🧵

It was honestly a little overkill, the contract was 10+ pages and most of the ones I saw were about 1 and half. But I thought it was important to set a standard of professionalism to her because I cared about her success. I've worked in regulated businesses and have seen🧵

So when it came down to discussing an exchange of money for feedback on her second book; I took it seriously. I did a search and found a pretty in-depth contract, customized the payment amount, etc and even signed up for a 30 day Docusign trial to make it official

to consider publishing a book. She also taught me the thing that I had handed out so freely was a skill and if I took it more seriously and freelanced, I would be a developmental editor. Because the grind of publishing has never been my dream, I had never looked into it🧵

This reminds me of something that happened a few months ago. A friend of mine wanted me to read a book and give her thoughts so I did. She wrote a second, and wanted me to do it again, and this time pay me. This friend is the one that encouraged me 🧵

Also gonna bring up TGoF: "Niceness is a decision, a strategy of social interaction, it is not a character trait."

A lot of people are "nice". Doesn't mean you want to do business with them.

He had thought of her as a rabbit. The 'oh' of her soft, pink lips parting had been a delight, and if he had not been so tired, he might have had the presence of mind to leave. Instead, in his drunkenness, he had indulged in theatrics, flicking her nose and half-expecting it to be warm and velvet like that of a rabbit. And then... and then she spoke. There was a saying about that, wasn't there? Something about a wolf in soft animal's clothing.

I thought I would post details about my WIP since twt has a pitch event. I'm going to reach 50% revision this week :) Plenty of time for beta edits.

yeah, spell check has definitely gotten worse since AI was pushed. It's eliminated words that used to be in their dictionary.

Temporary joining the writer circus on Twt for questpit and I've never been so popular in my life.

Today I'm working on a brand new chapter. There's a scene missing from the draft that's important for world building and should give readers great satisfaction. :3c

I have a five-book series planned and four of my cover slots are hypothetically taken. I know so many people have mannequins on their romance novels but I'm not about that life.
