A spherical form coated entirely with cotton-rich kokuso, then dried, lacquered with urushi, and sprinkled with tin powder. The surface appears highly textured and fibrous, with lacquer and muted silver tones creating a complex, organic finish.

綿を多めに混ぜた刻苧を全体に施した後、乾いてから漆を塗り、錫粉を蒔いた制作工程の様子。繊維質で凹凸のある球形の立体に、漆と鈍い銀色の金属粉が重なり、複雑な質感が生まれている。

In the same way, the entire surface was built up with kokuso mixed with a higher amount of cotton fibers.
After it dried, urushi lacquer was applied and tin powder was sprinkled over the surface.

A work in progress: the form reinforced with kokuso has been cut open and the paper core removed. The exposed cross-sections and extracted paper are arranged on the worktable.

刻苧で全体を固めた後に切断し、中の紙を取り除いた制作途中の立体作品。切り開かれた断面と、取り出された紙が作業台の上に並んでいる。

Kokuso was applied over the entire surface to harden the form.
It was then cut open, and the paper core inside was removed.

Work in progress: rolled paper wrapped in filter paper and reinforced with kokuso. Layers of kokuso are built up on the surface, and the mass held in hand gradually begins to take shape.

丸めた紙を濾紙で包み、刻苧で固めている制作途中の様子。刻苧が表面に塗り重ねられ、手で持たれた塊が形を成していく。

I roll the paper into shape,
wrap it with washi (filter paper),
and build it up with kokuso, a traditional urushi-based mixture.
