New article: "Risk loving and fat tails in the wealth distribution" by Aloisio Araujo, Juan Pablo Gama, and Timothy Kehoe. In a dynamic general equilibrium model risk-loving behavior by some investors generates unequal distributions of income and wealth.

Modern American planning is kind of the worst of both worlds: rigid micromanagement of development on private land combined with virtually no plan whatsoever for the public realm, e.g. streets and parks. Not how I would have designed the system!
