07.01.2026 00:03 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0as AI increasingly supports shopping and ads, itโs worth remembering that retrieval often shapes who gets exposure in final generated output. in a recent paper, @teknology.bsky.social uses methods from fair ranking to assess and address exposure bias in downstream generation.

Domain expertise can prevent overengineering and/or unnecessary costs.
Working in the legal industry as an AI scientist it became obvious early on how crucial it is to build the bridge towards domain experts.

if you work on "AI" and are concerned with social issues, you should apply to be the new director of the Tufts AI Institute: apply.interfolio.com/178311 (Need to be tenureable in one of our engineering departments, but it's explicitly open to people who work on human-oriented stuff.)

I suspect AI can generate things that look like good systematic reviews to some, the same way it can generate proofs or experiments that look like good theory or analysis to some; while others (reviewers, experts in those methods) will recognize the errors.
30.11.2025 18:43 โ ๐ 4 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0on the other hand, position papers in more algorithmic venues are new. what counts as a good position paper is unclear. I suspect for moderation this matters bc we need to understand what a position paper below threshold means.
30.11.2025 12:15 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I hope that review articles that use a systematic review as a method would be considered to use evidence.
30.11.2025 12:15 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0the quality of the type of work depends on community norms and peer review. I donโt know enough about how arxiv moderation works to suggest a protocol but it seems like the new policy excludes work w evidence that is more legible to some of the cs community.
30.11.2025 12:15 โ ๐ 4 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0even within ai, we often have theory papers rejected for lack of empirical evidence, empirical papers rejected for lack of theoretical evidence, evaluation papers rejected for lack of mitigation.
30.11.2025 12:15 โ ๐ 4 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 3 ๐ 0a philosopher once told me, in response to my concern about their paper missing relevant work, that they didnt have citations bc their communityโs way of working was to go away, think, come back, and write, without consulting the literature deeply.
30.11.2025 12:15 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0this may be the core of the problem. โgood evidenceโ can vary by discipline. a paper w lots of reasonable evidence in one discipline can look thin from another.
