The big issue here is that shifting norms about practical things like breadwinning does little without more difficult cultural shifts. A woman making more money is still going to be seen as the default parent/ homemaker & men often have more job options w/decent pay even if they don’t care abt norms

Is unexpectedly refreshing. I was a bit uneasy with it at first because I’m not used to dialogues more recent than Socrates, but there’s a disarming effect it has that I’m not sure is replicable with more standard academic approaches.

I can see why it appeals and why it was recommended.

It’s “When Equality Ends” by Richard Degaldo, for the record. I wish it were more recent than 1999. But it’s nevertheless prescient (mentions the desire to get rid of birthright citizenship, for example).

But honestly, the approach - an easy-to-read intellectual dialogue among friendly characters

And not just a dialogue, but a dialogue with a character who is an intellectual conservative respected by other characters. So you get one of the better arguments for one side out before it’s addressed.

It’s an interesting approach I don’t really see often, but I appreciate it.

I asked someone a while back if they had some suggestions for sources related to my dissertation, specifically from a CRT or further-Left perspective than I may be familiar with or read of my own accord. Finally got around to reading one of them today and was surprised it is a dialogue.

I finished playing #discoelysium (which I fondly call Disco Asylum) over a month ago and still randomly think of it and miss the atmosphere and characters. I really can’t think of anything else quite like it.

To believe otherwise is to put your fingers in your ears and reject the possibility of language. Even if the symbol was produced accidentally, the meaning of a communication is finally determined by the receiver. The common meaning is what matters because it is the one understood by the majority.

So tired of people excusing the salute because of autism. First, that seems insulting to autistic people. Second, not an excuse. Third, he did it TWICE so it wasn’t just an awkward accident. Fourth, he’s said thinly veiled adjacent things before. Fifth, they never cared about neurodivergence before.

At no point while reading this did I have an accurate idea of what the next word was going to be.

The idea of someone like Mary Turner’s child, cut from her stomach at 8 months old and immediately murdered as she was also brutally murdered, residing in the same Heaven as those who enacted this unjust cruelty just doesn’t seem right to me.

Sometimes reconciling mercy and justice is impossible.

I haven’t done the Scriptural dive into universalism, just been interested conceptually. But stories like this challenge it’s viability to me.

The fact these were common occurrences is a testament to evil being real imo.

As a Christian I’ve been interested in universalism lately after being an annihilationist for years. The stereotypical view of hell is not one I can accept from either a Biblical or moral standpoint.
