10/ We thank Elly and Miguel and all the wonderful colleagues involved in this exciting international collaboration between 🇦🇹 @imbavienna.bsky.social and 🇪🇸 CNIC. My great two co-first authors: Jingkui Wang and @jpenap.bsky.social.

8/ But what about mammals?

Activating AXL in mouse cardiomyocytes protected them from cell death and induced dedifferentiation, including structural and metabolic changes similar to those seen in regenerating species.

1/ Can #Axolotls teach us new things about #HeartRegeneration?

A great collaboration between Elly Tanaka and Miguel Torres labs.

We’re happy to share our new work in which we ask how axolotls regenerate their hearts and could they help mammals with that?

In this Journal Club article in @natureportfolio.nature.com Cardiology Reviews, I aim to disseminate knowledge about this groundbreaking discovery by one of the most influential scientists of all time. Of course, you can find a beautiful drawing of a cardiomyocyte 🫀

In 1888, Ramón y Cajal published the description of the cardiomyocyte sarcolemma (the specialized cell membrane of muscle cells) for the first time. However, he received little to no recognition in the international community, as he published this finding only in Spanish journals.

WE ALL KNOW Santiago Ramón y Cajal's work on neurons 🧠, but did you know he also worked on HEART? ❤️
