Delighted that our work on positional memory is now published. We asked how axolotl cells 'know' which part of the limb to regenerate after injury.

Drosophila follicle showing retrotransposons (pink & yellow) expressed in somatic cells infecting the oocyte
1/ Transposable elements are often called "jumping genes" because they mobilize within genomes. ๐งฌ
But did you know they can also jump ๐ฃ๐ฆ๐ต๐ธ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ฏ cells? ๐คฏ
Our new study reveals how retrotransposons invade the germline directly from somatic cells.

The evolutionary origin and mechanism of chordate tail regeneration. An ancient tale?
Chordate tail regeneration represents the remarkable ability of some chordates to partially or completely regenerate a significant portion of their prโฆ
As you might guess I spend a lot of time thinking about tail regeneration. So I figured we might as well put this in a review article. Glad to see this out before the end of the year and thankful for the input from @murawalalab.bsky.social www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

Now that the initial transition wave passed, I would be happy to connect with cardiac regeneration folks on here. I study how axolotls regenerate their hearts and I am interested in #devbio #regenbio

Excited to share our study on spatio-temporal reconstruction of cardiac scar formation led by Andy Chan. We combine scRNA-seq with spatial transcriptomics to resolve the fibrotic niche and the niche of dedifferentiating cardiomyocytes.
