Photo of the Minnesota Aurora founders.

Today we had planned on sharing a day long celebration of officially becoming Minnesota Aurora FC on January 27th, 2022. But now is not the time to celebrate.

We created this team on a set of values that we now see being put into action every day to support our neighbors and fight against discrimination and unconstitutional behavior.

We are unified as an Aurora community, and we see you, and we thank you.

We stand proud to be a part of Minnesota and will continue to work towards the day where we can all be together again enjoying Minnesota Aurora soccer and celebrating our beautiful community.

I'm a resident of the Twin Cities. A small team and I spent 3 days sculpting this for a competition/festival in extremely cold temperatures. We were disqualified for political messaging and one of the organizers defaced it. I have no regrets and I have never been more proud to be Minnesotan. (cont)

moderntimescafempls Hello,

My name is Dylan. I own Modern Times Cafe in South Minneapolis and have for 15 years. Modern Times is on the corner of 32nd and Chicago Ave; 6 blocks from where George Floyd was murdered, 3 blocks from where Renee Good was executed, and a mere neighborhood away from where Alex Pretti was murdered.

After ICE Agents shot and killed Renee and then Alex, I was at the scene within hours. I witnessed hostile and aggressive armed goons sent by the Federal Government protecting each other from unarmed, outraged citizens. I bore witness to these atrocities and was tear-gassed, smoke bombed, and concussion grenaded alongside my neighbors.

Minneapolis has been living through the abhorrent horror of the federally sanctioned abduction of our neighbors, public executions of people exercising their rights, and a targeted escalation of government violence. It's an atrocious and despicable occupation.

We are entering yet another week of this occupation with a deep sense of dread and mourning. We absolutely cannot go on as we have. am sick of generating money for the soldiers in our streets and for a government that won't protect us - a government who is actively inflicting daily harm on its citizens.

Effective tomorrow we are done making money for the fascists that occupy our city. We refuse to generate taxes under the guise of a functioning for-profit capitalist business aligned with government strategy. Amidst many strategic pivots and determined leadership, Modern Times has been barely soluble since 2020. Therefore, for the remainder of the government occupation, we will function as a free and donation based restaurant, Post Modern Times. Everyone is welcome EXCEPT ICE.

Hours will not change but our menu will be smaller. Staff agreed to be present on a volunteer basis, working from shared tips and community donations.

Post Modern Times is a small stance amidst a gigantic fight that may shape the future of this country. I am inspired by the ways our community has grown together, our hearts breaking open, to give and receive care in all the ways we can. May we continue to see each other in the streets.

Modern Times is a South Minneapolis staple, and a personal favorite haunt. For the duration of the occupation they're renaming themselves Post Modern Times and going to a donation-only model. Everyone but ICE can eat for free.

Setting aside the fact that Murphy helped pass the bill that handed TikTok to Trump allies, I really don't think anyone should be citing that David Leavitt account for anything. Dude's bad news.

Statement from Michael and Susan Pretti
Parents of Alex Jeffrey Pretti

β€œWe are heartbroken but also very angry.

Alex was a kindhearted soul who cared deeply for his family and friends and also the American veterans whom he cared for as an ICU nurse at the Minneapolis VA hospital. Alex wanted to make a difference in this world. Unfortunately, he will not be with us to see his impact.

I do not throw around the β€˜hero’ term lightly. However, his last thought and act was to protect a woman. The sickening lies told about our son by the administration are reprehensible and disgusting. Alex is clearly not holding a gun when attacked by Trump’s murdering and cowardly ICE thugs. He had his phone in his right hand and his empty left hand is raised above his head while trying to protect the woman ICE just pushed down, all while being pepper sprayed.

Please get the truth out about our son. He was a good man. Thank you.

I'm sending this out to the few folks I know who might support the present administration. I've done my best to be politically tolerant all my life and respect folks I disagree with. The last few weeks in the Twin Cities have shaken that tolerance to its core. All of the conservative folks I respected growing up have long abandoned the Republican party, but there are still folks I care about who have found ways to justify remaining. Usually they shrug and say something like, "We don't like him much either," and then do nothing to stop the rise of this horrible new regime. I don't care about excuses any more. This is the world you all made.

I don't know how you might have been hoodwinked into your present beliefs, but you need to know they are deeply wrong and folks are getting killed because of it.

The Twin Cities are an incredible place. I've lived all over this country, and I think this little corner of the Midwest represents the best of us. Within a week of moving here I knew the names of everyone on my street. Folks brought us food and helped watch our kids as we unpacked. We bonded over digging out each other's cars in the winter and comparing north shore hikes and camping grounds in the summer. If I hadn't lived here, I wouldn't have imagined a place like this could exist.

Over the past month, we have been ravaged by state-sponsored terrorists. They are kidnapping folks. It's not uncommon to find an empty car, blinkers on, in the middle of the road, as if the driver had been whisked away in the Rapture.

Families are being broken up, folks with ample legal protections are being locked up for days without access to their lawyers or their families. This isn't an internet rumor. It's happening outside my window and it's every bit as horrible as a page from the Diary of Anne Frank.

But Minnesotans are a stalwart bunch. We've got a neighborhood patrol to protect school children from government agents. Cati has been helping coordinate groceries for folks who are afraid to leave their home. The little dish by our door where we put our keys now has a stock of whistles that we bring with us so that we can alert folks to government agents. And it's working. ICE is less effective, and more and more people and businesses are being tied into one of the most remarkable and organic grassroots efforts ever seen. All of that was on display yesterday when I went downtown with perhaps 40 or 50 thousand people to protest. The -40 degree wind chill didn't stop us.

And yet, today they killed another person. In broad daylight. The video is horrible and looks like something that we'd associate with the reign of Tito or Kristallnacht. They are trying so hard to break this beautiful place. They won't do it, but the longer they try the more people are going to die senselessly.

None of this would be possible without the folks who enabled this, one way or another. That's you and that's on you. This isn't an invitation to a dialogue. I'm done talking. This is a demand for accountability. Turn off your TVs and your podcasts and step out of your echo chambers. A terrible moment has arrived in America, and you carried it here on your backs.

'Sinister Minnesotans' T-Shirt Show your solidarity with the Sinister Minnesotans refusing to back down from the ICE agents currently polluting their great state with brutality, lawlessness, and an obvious dependence on testosteron...

We've made this Sinister Minnesotans shirt from our Stan Kelly comic this week.

Net proceeds from this shirt will be donated to local organizations doing their part to keep Minnesotans safe and send ICE agents home to ruin their own fucking communities.

Fuck ICE and stay strong, Minneapolis.
