Hundreds of Alligator Alcatraz detainees drop off the grid after leaving site As of the end of August, the whereabouts of two-thirds of more than 1,800 men detained at Alligator Alcatraz during the month of July could not be determined by the Miami Herald.

More than 1800 detainees are missing after the closure of Alligator Alcatraz. Their families and lawyers can’t find them and they’ve vanished from the ICE database. Feels like this should be a much bigger story www.miamiherald.com/news/local/i...

Comparing polyprotein processing in four human coronaviruses revealed distinct and common features like delayed cutting between nsp7 and nsp8. AlphaFold3 models (here SARS-CoV-2 nsp7-11) showed that this cleavage site can form a helix. The methyltransferase nsp16 binds nsp10 depending on the virus even prior release from the polyprotein. Long COVID in Young Children, School-Aged Children, and Teens This JAMA Pediatrics Patient Page describes the symptoms of long COVID in children.

Long COVID’s surpassed asthma as the most common chronic illness among US children, impacting an estimated 6 million kids.

This scale of chronic illness is preventable with clean air infrastructure + destigmatized (& therefore increased) respirator (N95, FFP3, etc.) mask wearing.

Exemplary coverage from
@NatGeo
 on the rise in heart attacks.

Gives fair weight to COVID infections as one of the causes. (The “up to 3yrs” framing is wrong, of course. The correct interpretation of the findings in those studies is “for at least 3yrs”.)

If you claim to care ab disabled people & accessibility & inclusion, do you wear a mask in public spaces?

Masks make spaces accessible for immunocompromised ppl

By not wearing a mask, you’re excluding a certain group of people from participating in society

Does your behaviour reflect your values?

Suggesting the world is “post COVID” contributes to an unwitting shift in research priorities

We don’t say ‘post HIV’ or ‘post Ebola’, so why are people saying ‘post COVID’? COVID is running rampant due to apathy, ignorance and complacency on the part of governments, public health and healthcare systems

Opinion | The Fifth Anniversary of the Covid Pandemic Reveals New Lessons (Gift Article) Five years since a novel virus spread everywhere, it’s hard to remember what the beginning was like.

Must read. Basically says the pandemic was as terrible as the 'alarmists' predicted but "our memories are so warped by denial, suppression and sublimation that Covid revisionism no longer even qualifies as news."
