Our population & size is ~equivalent to continental Europe, but too many folks don't really conceptualize the implication of that. But b/c of it, having one big overarching government means taking control of just a few levers of power with a few people in the right places is a nationwide takeover.
It's also worth noting we experience it at scale in USA, whereas that same % in EU countries' populations amounts to relatively much smaller number of actual people to carry out fascism, it is split b/w countries & has no collective power across the EU population. Scaling matters in this.
