I wedge my bottom one against my 4th finger with the bottom of my thumb and use the 2nd and 3rd with the top of my thumb. Always hard trying to learn a muscle memory thing though, good luck o.o!

I absolutely do not hold either of my chopsticks the same way I hold a pencil. Whatever you can do to get your hand to hold one steady while the other moves is enough.
