Writing historical fiction means spending 2.5+ hours debating whether your character would use bathing costume, bathing suit, or swimming costume (and then possibly leaving the word out altogether) 😆
I was just vacuuming, and it turns out we don’t actually have carpet. Only dog hair.
When you wake up dreaming new words for the book that you are editing, you walk the dog, and then you write them down.
The new Scrivener update fixed the issue that forced a capital on a dialogue tag after a question mark! Hallelujah!
The problem with finishing a good book in the afternoon is then you have to figure out how to fill your evening despite a raging book hangover.
A year and a half ago I started reading North & South and had to put it down at about 40%. A few days ago I picked it up again and haven’t been able to put it down. Mood reader, indeed.
This was a fun email to receive at work. WHO’S GOING TO BUY YOUR FORDS, JIM?
Obviously it’s June 29, not May 🤦♀️
Hey Librarian Friends! If you’re headed to ALA, pick up a free bookmark of Maggie and the Pirate’s Son at the IBPA Booth 1547. And don’t miss the Indie Book Buzz Bingo on Sunday May 29 at 1:45 ET at booth 138! Have a great time. I wish I could be there this year!
Thanks!
Ok thanks so much! I haven’t done much that required blocking before, but it’s wool, so I’m super relieved to hear that should take care of it!
Thanks! That’s so frustrating that the pattern doesn’t mention anything about the roll potential. ☹️ I mean I do know that about stockinette but figured the pattern accounted. So nothing I do to change the i-cord is going to matter I guess?
Are there knitters on Bluesky? Cape is stockinette + 6 rows garter edging then i-cord BO. Whole edge is curving & flipping over. Tried +1 needle size on right—seemed worse—tried -1 needle size, nope. Seems due to garter = looser than stockinette & i-cord = looser than garter. Ideas? Help!
At the Nashville SC game, a giant flag for La Brigada de Oro, the Latino supporters section, which is not here tonight due to ICE activity. NSC officials tried to remove it, but were met with vehement objections by supporters clubs, who threatened a giant walkout if they did.
It kind of seems like the answer is no :(
Do librarians not use NetGalley as much as they did a few years ago?
Hey #Romancelandia Librarians! Now on NetGalley: 1st in my new contemporary series: Tennessee Hebrides -- Grace on the Rocks is a renovation, only one B&B, Scottish get-away romance. www.netgalley.com/catalog/book... #romance #newbooks
It feels weird to talk about your own books now, so I've barely done it, but I wrote a classic whodunnit that also features our long American fascination with Eugenics and race in law (the Nazis LOVED OUR LAWS and BORROWED THEM) and is ANTI FASCIST.

In case this reaches anyone in Tennessee, this weekend is Smyrna’s first ever Author Con!
I got laid off today, with the rest of 18F.
18F was an elite federal software shop. We made gov't websites work better, more efficiently for the American people. We saved taxpayers from getting screwed over by contractors. And were fired for it.
We made this website to tell our story:

My proof copy has arrived! 😍

Let's be so real. It's been an awful week/month/year. But I have a book coming out so I guess I need to promote it. Pre-orders are live now. This one is contemporary romance, first in my new Tennessee Hebrides series. GRACE ON THE ROCKS publishes May 20. I hope you'll consider reading it.
It #1. They’re pronouncing it on the news the same way as his crypto of the same name.
Seems like a good time to let people know you can lock down your social security file:

I’m so so so excited to share the absolutely gorgeous, hot-off-the-presses cover for GRACE ON THE ROCKS, and if you’re kinda excited too, you should maybe sign up for my newsletter to get a sneak peek.

Thank you! Follow-up question—does it matter if it’s 1st person or 3rd person?
I asked this in another forum and got an interesting response that made me wonder—are all the Duets you’ve read 1st person?
