Finally announced! I co-designed and co-wrote The Ghost in the Shell Roleplaying Game alongside Alessio Cavatore.
It was a real pleasure to write and design for such a beloved world and story. I loved delving deep into the complex characters who occupy this dark world. GitS fans are in for a treat!
I couldnt move on with my previous implementation for the wall. (you can see the old one from second 10). The new one, the merlones and support arcs keep verticality and also through ray cast snap to the topology below them. This was so much work ๐ฅฒ

Haven't given up on that ivy stuff yet; but I did get inspired to try my hand at a generalized procedural system for foliage, cause that's something I'd use the hell out of
ngl though, it's.. pretty frustrating so far and I haven't even gotten to the annoying part (editor scripting ๐)

Small thing I wanted to try ever since I saw it in a bunch of toon shaders: a depth-offset based rim lighting that responds to the light direction โจ
It's quite more stylized than just a thresholded fresnel and it can look pretty sick with cel shading๐

Started working on a effect to demo the tool. I want to add more variation but seems like a decent first pass.
Also, yes I unnecessarily dipped my hands in paint to make this.
I'll drop some pictures in a replay since it was fun.

I made a directional noise type I call Phacelle Noise which is pretty fast!
Is it new or does something functionally identical already exist? I'm not sure! But I didn't come across one like this yet anyway, so here's my findings:

We had some acrylic laying around that was going unused. Processed the photos in Photoshop a bit before importing them into Houdini to make the full effects textures.
Used the cloud tools in Houdini to generate some wisps based on the textures.
