i also think that a lot of the people being reactionary over seeing the headline "discord sends your face to ai for age verification" and saying "i'm moving to matrix, i'm on stoat, i'm on signal" don't actually know what they're talking about and only take other people's opinions for themselves

like people moved off of skype because discord was stable, wasn't owned by microsoft, and had a new much better layout for communities in the form of servers. if someone wants to make something to replace discord they need to do basically that amount of effort to create something brand new

i think all that's actually going to happen is that maybe people move to signal for dms and such, but not enough people are going to move off of discord to make it obsolete. the only thing that will actually do this is something that provides real new features over discord.
