Two years ago, I set off on a personal pilgrimage, walking the length of Britain from Lands End to John O’Groats.
The single most transformative experience of my life.
Along the way, I published a blog and daily video of the trip.

Yes, I still believe that is a good rule of thumb in any organisation. In a MAT, that would mean nobody earning more than around £240k salary.
The long service bonuses I suggest in the blog could easily fit within this if the bonus is considered as a five or ten year cost.
In which I call for headteachers to be given a £600K bonus… amongst other things…

Consolidation of trusts is inevitable but we have choices to make on the form that takes, says ATT's Mark McCourt.

NEW BLOG: Three routes to trust consolidation
Writing in @cstvoice.bsky.social today, I make the case for three distinct ways in which our education system might become more coherent, impactful and better value for money.

Would you like to work with me and a great team to govern our multi-academy trust as it takes its next steps?
I'd love to hear from you if you have the skills, knowledge and time to commit to being a Trustee of ATT.

"When it goes well, teachers are not simply delivering content, they are doing species-defining work." Wow, that's a way to make Monday morning feel a little less humdrum!
Really interesting post sharing insights from anthropology with clear, concrete classroom applications
Hopefully Tomasello is still a big deal for post-grads :-) His work is absolutely fantastic. Becoming Human remains one of my favourite books.

"My view is that England should have no more than 400 trusts and that we should try to achieve this by 2030"
Agree with him or not, this is very thought-provoking indeed from Mark McCourt - many in policy circles do agree, but tend to whisper it...

Not sure 400 is right number (suggests an average trust size of 40-50 schools depending how many maintained schools convert), but all @markmccourt.bsky.social's arguments are important. Definitely need this debate & more effort to ensuring community connections are valued by MATs
If we want an academy trust system that works for pupils, staff and the taxpayer, we need to drastically reduce trust numbers, suggests @markmccourt.bsky.social
