My therapist recommended that I pick up some positive habits to improve my mental health. I'm leaning toward starting cigarette smoking. Any downsides to this? I can't think of any of the top of my head but wanted to make sure.

I feel wonderful when somebody gives my novel a great review, but I also take perverse pleasure when somebody hates the story because writing novels is tortuous, and I like people to share in my misery.

Whenever young authors approach me filled with self-doubt and looking for advice, I always sit them down and immediately advise them to GIVE UP and STOP WRITING because then there's less competition for me.
