Also I don't want people to read this as me saying that games shouldn't tackle *violence* as a theme. Obviously if you've played either of our games (especially Slay the Princess) you'll know we don't shy from it.
But combat mechanics soften your ability to authentically explore that theme.

The half-formed creatures hunger for the rush of wind and adrenaline, vicious claws to gut this world, gaping mouths to consume, and to feel alive. A long beige building lined with restaurant signs is on one side of you, and an almost empty parking lot is close by. It's a small plaza.
Do you have business here? . . . Trash that you needed to throw away? You don't remember ever being here before. Where should you be instead? Your gut twists with anxiety. You have no idea where to go, what to do, or even who you are. The only thing you're certain of is a feeling of emptiness. Hands darting around in panic, you pat your pockets.
I'm currently working on The Lykos Infection, an interactive fiction game where you play as an amnesiac trying to remember a parasitic encounter that left you with fits of rage and a strange connection to the moon. Hopeful release date is early Jan to mid Feb.
