I do love the New Mutants under Shooter, because the Sienkeitz art combined with these giant blocks of awful monotonous explanatory writing mesh together to be inscrutable & un inviting that forces you to look closer

my sense is that Shoter’s legacy is effect of a bunch of unreadable shit, that said art is secondary, while demanding the maximum amount of exposition out of his writers. At some point between the first and second example he demanded that letterers stop bolding text.
