At a talk featuring people working for years to free Mumia Abu-Jamal, speaker said that in a convo with Abu-Jamal about how supporters said his death sentence being vacated wasn't a victory since he was still incarcerated, Abu-Jamal disagreed. Made me think about how we understand wins and struggle.

Lot of people meme-ing Ann Nocenti/Mark Bagley Captain America upset by America’s foreign policy, not enough people meme-ing Steve Englehart/Sal BuscemaCaptain America catches Richard Nixon who commits suicide to avoid punishment.

RIP Sal Buscema, he drew quietly but with potent imaginative thrills for anyone able to cobble together 50 cents. Strange ideas drawn on cheap paper, sent around the country in large numbers...

it appears the official editorial stance of the atlantic magazine really is "authoritarian unilateral action without care for the consequences *is* what the rest of the world should shut up and take, but by god, don't you dare treat *us* like those freaky foreigners"! how liberal-minded of them.

The political press very clearly understands β€œtruth” as a social agreement, a compromise position between everyone important enough to have an opinion. It did not reflect on how this would allow dedicated liars to go all-in on lies again and again and dramatically shift the position.

Something @pkrugman.bsky.social said years ago about the 2nd Iraq war has stuck with me: to be considered a serious thinker by the mainstream, even in retrospect, you had to have been completely wrong about Iraq for a few years, then have changed your mind. I suspect we’ll see a lot of this.
