Beyond Dutton's loss, this is a chance for a new type of politics in Australia The comprehensive nature of this win gives Anthony Albanese the chance to change the narrative of our politics.

My take on last night’s extraordinary result www.abc.net.au/news/2025-05...

A black background with white writing headline from the Australian newspaper that says:

"LIVE POLITICS NOW

Dutton flags tying education funding to remove 'woke' agenda"

This is of course the usual culture wars bullshit from Dutton who expels news-hijacking, fart-bubble thoughts faster than a man who's eaten an entire jar of jalapeños.

The issue isn't that Dutton is going to shape his campaign and tactics 100% on Trump (different playing fields) but that Dutton gets his research and analysis from the same think tanks and specialised comms groups that the Republicans do.

Same culture wars shit, diluted down for Australian tastes.

Dutton is clearly flagging that he will cut funding to the #ABC and to public education.
Fair funding for public schools has been hard fought for. We are so near now it would be devastating if Dutton got to it first

Something I've been banging on about for some time now:

Peter Dutton is a multi-millionaire property developer

He has been for all of his adult life. That's who he is & how he earns his wealth

For a brief interlude in his 20s he was a cop, yet he and our media have defined him by that ever since

Australia news live: ABC has spent $1.1m on external lawyers in Antoinette Lattouf case, Senate estimates told Follow live

What is the ABC actually defending here? Clearly, not its ‘editorial integrity’. The Lattouf case has revealed it as an internally crippled, nobbled, and hopelessly politicised organisation of vacuous careerists who are clueless about its mission.

Burke defends citizenship ceremony blitz as clearing 'huge backlog' Immigration Minister Tony Burke said the extra ceremonies were to clear a "huge backlog", rubbishing Coalition suggestions of a political motive.

Around 16,000 people become eligible for citizenship each month. Last big clutch of citizenship ceremonies was on OZ Day. So 12,000 since then is hardly out of the ordinary. This is a Dutton/Murdoch beat up. www.abc.net.au/news/2025-02...

Internal News Corp planning docs shows that Daily Telegraph journalists spent a week planning using secretly recording video glasses to show "peopls [sic] reaction to this jewish man"

CCTV shows that he went into a cafe, ordered a drink, loitered for a few minutes and just walked out.

Pressure to axe Lattouf came ‘from higher up’ ABC Radio Sydney’s then-content director has said she “did not see anything wrong” with an online post by Antoinette Lattouf.

Amazing, the ABC. Rarely have so many managers done so little managing.

That's what I'd been thinking since this case started. Well, the curtains have been pulled back, and it's not a pretty sight. Not sure if an outcomes review will be for the better🤞

Is Ita trying to pretend that after dozens and dozens and dozens of the exact same complaint - after all her decades in the media - she had no idea, zero, none, nix, that this was part of a coordinated campaign?

Didn't think that for a second? Oh honey, no

This exchange encapsulates so much of what is wrong with the media:

Former ABC Chair Ita Buttrose describes Antoinette Lattouf as “an activist”.

“What was the view that Ms Lattouf had Ms Buttrose?” Lattouf’s lawyer asks.

“I think she was critical of Israel” Buttrose says.

Buttrose concedes she forwarded a congratulatory email about the dismissal of Lattouf onto David Anderson, with a comment that it was nice to receive positive feedback.

She maintains, that she was not "happy" about the dismissal. Adds someone losing their job is the worst outcome that can happen.

Federal government should initiate a wholesale review of ABC governance, charter, complaints process, independence etc.

What’s been revealed in the past week is an indictment on basically every layer of management. And it’s only been revealed by this case. Imagine what we don’t know.

The ABC's head of content fired journalist Antoinette Lattouf as quickly as he could, to "try and beat the story" being published in The Australian.

Not much consideration of the public interest, or even the ABC Charter, going on here www.theage.com.au/business/com...

Labor just voted with the Coalition to kill THEIR OWN Nature Positive reforms🤯

Enough crossbenchers voted to keep it alive in the Senate for Labor to have passed their long promised reform.

Neither of the major parties will stand up for Nature 😥
